I just got a roll of 1/2'' tubing and am wondering if 1/2'' 125 PSI can be used to make the same size hoops as 3/4 160 PSI? I want to go 42'' but am wondering if this weight will get wonky. I was also considering going for 3/4 100 PSI however PSI being the weight I feel like that would be too light for me.

Secondarily, I'm making some hoops for my friends daughters as my present to them - what is a good size for children?

They were actually hooping with my 43'' 3/4'' 160 PSI hoop - it was a site but you know they did really well! They are around 9, 7 and 5 (I think. They are way smaller than me.)

I think you should be fine with this-- that is exactly the size of my first hoop. Also, remember that you can add weight with tape if it turns out a bit too light for your taste. The smaller, lighter tubing is bendy, but that's actually easier on the body-- less bruising & such. I love it & use it for all my hoops. I've had no trouble with hoops kinking or losing shape. 1/2" 100 psi does make reversals a little "boingier" & less crisp-- that's really the only downside in my mind, & for me the good things outweigh the bad by far.

I think the same principle applies when sizing hoops for children as for adults-- somewhere between navel & chest height is best. (On the smaller side if you think they'll be doing off-body tricks.)
Thank you for the advice :D I am hoping the new hoops will be easier for me play with. I like some weight but the 160 is a bit much.

For the kids, I guess I will get my friends to measure them for me. They loved the hoop so much. IT was so cute watching them fight over it.
I have the tubing you mentioned and made 36" collapsibles. They were really responsive when I first made them but have found the got a bit wobbly over time. I think they've settle into themselves now though.
DO you think 36 would be the max on 1/2'' 125 PSI?
i use 2 sizes to make my hoops - 1/2" 125 PSI and 3/4" 100 PSI... you should consider trying to use the 3/4" 100 PSI if the 1/2" ones turn out too light - even though the PSI is technically lower on the 3/4", it's significantly heavier than the 1/2". it sounds like you already have a roll of 1/2"... you could just try making a 42" one and hoop with it before you decorate... then if you need it smaller, you can just reheat the seal and it should pop open.

as far as kids go... i use hooping harmony's chart:

I had a 42" 1/2" 100 psi that I loved. Knee hooping was much easier. I sacrificed it to spread the hooping love, but I miss it so. For kids 30" diameter 1/2" hoops are great (this is the same as the large size toy hoops from Walmart, but the irrigation tubing is a better material). 30" may be a little large for the smaller kids, but larger is easier and I figure they will grow into them. I had one eleven year old fall in love with my 42" 100 psi and she insisted that I make hers that big. She loved it, though.
I just bought a roll of 1/2 inch 125psi on Saturday for the first time. I bought it specifically to make some more mini hoops for myself, but thought what the heck, I might as well try a bigger hoop just to see. I made it to be 40inches and I love it. But in my opinion (I say opinion because I haven't actually weighed them) I think the 3/4inch 100psi has more weight then the 1/2" 125 psi. I like them both. I tend to like a variety. What hoop I choose on any given day really depends on my mood. Some days I like a quick light hoop that I can whip around and other days I like a heavy slow hoop that I can do alot of floating with. So, I would make the hoop any size you'd like it and have fun experimenting!
I really ended up being happy with this batch of hoops! I can actually learn on these vs my 3/4'' 160 (so heavy)

I am going to try 3/4 100 psi next just because I like the 3/4'' - you can actually SEE the tape design. The 1/2 don't seem to pop as much no matter how nicely you tape them.

My pole dance studio is about to launch ur hoopFIT programs - so the tubing is all a tax write off - right?
have you tried the 3/4 100 psi yet? i was about to buy some today but thought i should check it out. i think that the one that i bought last year is 1 in 160 psi so its huge and heavy. i tried to neck hoop and o my i would have looked like i was strangled if i continued. Soo heavy!
i too would like to make a kids hoop. do you think this size would be too heavy for a 7 yr old?
I don't want to buy anything until i know. $50 for 100ft of tubing is not so cheap!
