Hi everyone!  I had been skimming the site, a few others for a few months and was mesmerized by hooping.  I always kept my childhood hoop around to goof around with through the years and when I found about people exercised with them, danced with them and did some amazing tricks with them: I was in!

I tried working with my kid hoops for a few weeks, but to be honest I just sucked.  I recently got myself my first adult hoop (an infinity collapsible who's tape has taken quite a beating to far!) which I love.  I carry it to classes with me, sometimes sneak into an abandoned room and spin for a few minutes, or hoop during my office hours (I'm also a TA, office hours are awesome moments of free time when students don't need help!).

I've been regularly hooping at least three days a week for a little less than a month.  I can see much improvement in some things.  Right now I am working on knee-hooping, which is here and there.  The back of my knees are bruised to high heaven, but that's giving me the opportunity to work on thigh hooping.  Chest hooping...is not quite happening.  But in time I'm sure I'll work that out!

I'm really enjoying hooping and glad I've taken it up.

A little about me: My name is Shaina and I'm a senior Anthropology and Art History major.  I focus on Viking Age and Medieval archaeology.  I spend my summers excavating abroad and definitely plan on bring in my hoop with me next season (working on a 12th century abbey in Co. Meath, Ireland!)  I am a huge nerd who likes her video games, D&D and covets her special addition Han Solo Blaster Gun.  I am a rabbit fanatic with an awesome boyfriend who can deal with my many varieties of crazy.

I'm glad this community exists!

Hi Shaina, welcome! It's nice to get to know you. Your work sounds really interesting!

Have no fear, the chest hooping will come. Think circular, that's my advice-- move your body to follow the contour of the hoop. Speed up your movement if you can & turn with the hoop to give yourself more time. It will happen!
Welcome :]

In time, you'll rock chest hooping. It took me months & months for it to finally click!

(Maybe someday you'll do an anthropological project on the hoop)...
Hi,

What a great way to spend your summer! This is a wonderful site for hoopers to connect. Good luck with the chest hooping.
Yay!! Welcome!
Welcome Shaina!

Keep practicing, listen to music that makes your body move, try blindfolded hooping to get you more inside your body. You've caught the hooping bug!

Your energy is contagious...i have to hoop now!
Thanks for the welcomes. :) I feel my movement improving more. I found a bigger space in my university gym to work it, and it makes a difference (who'd have thought!).
Hi, Shaina, and welcome! Hope you post some pix (and maybe a video?) from your dig site hooping sessions this summer; I imagine you'll have some amazing scenery there.
Oh yes! Definitely! I wish I was hooping when I was in the Orkney Islands and the Shetlands. The Scottish Isles are so pretty! And hopefully I still don't suck eggs by then as well. I am still rather fond of hitting myself in the face while I attempt to make chest hooping work. Hehe.
Lol - I haven't hit myself in the face while chest hooping yet, but that's just because I can't get the hang of chest hooping. With my - ahem - endowments in that area, you'd think the dang hoop would stay up better... Oh, well, I'll get it one of these days.
No I understand you, the hoop just bounces right off my girls and beats me in the chin. I'm sure it would be going better for me if certain bitties didn't get in the way. Hail sports bras?
Amen to the sports bras! :-D
