New hooper with old hoop - how to retape?

Hi hoopers. I was gifted an old hoop that is leaving traces of tape wherever I go. I've seen videos on how to tape, but am wondering if I need to take off the tape that's there or just tape over it. And what kind of tape do you recommend for a first time taper?

take it off!- if you are doing only one hoop- buy duct tape. Walmart has some cool designs. If you have others you can buy pretty tapes on ebay!

Agreed! Take it off, de-goo. And I prefer hockey tape. It's clothy and grippy!

I recommend Goo Gone to remove tape. I recommend it to remove ANYTHING sticky from ANY surface.
