Hey Hoopers I am now starting to hoop. I am having a hard time of spinning and then catching the hoop in either hand to bring over my head. Any advice?

if you spin to the left, pur your right hand on your lower back, and just get the feel of it hitting your hand. When it passes by your hand, say "now". Build up to being able to then close your hand on it with a loose grip, and leading with your elbow, bring it over your head to a lasso. If you spin to the right, try it with your left hand. I hope this helps a little bit, it just takes practice! :)

Thanks so very much!! yeah its a lil hard but i think ill get the hang of it. Again thanks.

it may help to also spin yourself in the direction your hoop is going, so your hand motion can be slower, but you can still get it over your head. :)

One of the mistakes I made when I began hooping was getting a little bit over my head when learning new tricks. Good advice that I had received was to make sure you could do the beginning, and ending product of a trick before stringing everything together, so for the lasso, make sure you can:

if your hoop is spinning left:

a)Hoop around the waist while your right hand is on the small of your back.

-When teaching a class, I found that many people where able to hoop on their waist easily, but when it came to putting their hand on their back, it fell down to the ground. Hooping takes a good deal of coordination, so you want to take it slow when incorporating your hands and feet and whatever else.

b)spin it over you head, like a lasso (hence it's name, haha)

-Another thing I saw in class, was some girls were a bit weary of that ending part of it

If you can do those things, then you're ready to string them together

So if your hoop is spinning left, and your right hand is on the small of your back, Jessica added a good side note to spin in the direction of the hoop: When you feel the hoop cross your hand, start spinning to your left as you start to pull your right hand up, that way you give yourself a little bit of extra time to feel the hoops momentum.

It also sometimes helps me to throw on some good music to distract myself from over analyzing a trick too much. You're going to drop a hoop 2398498234 times, and eventually things just click. Stay relaxed, and have fun!

Thank u both greatly. yeup i got the hand in the small of my back down and i can grab n let go with out the hoop falling its bring it up i am having bit trouble with.

something that i had trouble with when i was learning that trick, was that my hoop didnt have enough momentum, and my hoop was pretty big and heavy. make sure you keep up the speed, otherwise you will have a floppy hoop as you bring it up. it works best for me with lighter hoops, so I can keep it straight with my wrists. I really hope this helps a little bit!
