I am entering into month five of hooping with my home-made hoops. I have used 3/4" 160psi and 100psi, and also 1/2" 125 psi. My options are to either buy another bundle of tubing--but making it HDPE (it would cost me more just to "try")...or to buy a single, blank polypro online. I have not hooped with anything other than the regular PE, so I don't have much to go on... If I go with HDPE, will I still find myself wondering if I could've skipped it and moved straight to Poly Pro? Also I should add that I am always broke and I usually have to convince my husband that I REALLLLY NEEEED this hobby of mine...so cost is an issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated, even if I can guess what most of you will say! :)

Permalink Reply by Jessi on June 22, 2012 at 1:49pm Humm my reply didn't show up! Well what I said was you can buy hdpe single hoops online too but I would definitely go with polypro, its so much more responsive. I went from 1/2pe to 3/4polypro and it was perfect! I think a lot of people just go straight to polypro now too. Hdpe is more popular with led hoops because its more durable with the added weight of the leds then polypro is. Do you know anyone with a polypro hoop you can try out?
Permalink Reply by LiviJoyHoops on June 22, 2012 at 3:05pm Thanks for the advice! I am actually, as we speak, waiting to get a confiration from Hoopsupplies.com for a plain clear polypro! I think I made the right choice!
I really wish that I know someone in my area with a polypro hoop to try...in fact, I wish I knew anyone in my area with A HOOP! I think I am the only one in town! I guess I just have to get out there and get people interested!

Let me know what you think of the quality in regards to your polypro..Im still messing around with who to go through given the many discussions on the subject and hoopsupplies seem to be pretty legit. My only concern is the style of connector they use..I have heard many sides to which is better..(smaller tubing or the pop rivet connector). If you get your hoop and it's bitchin, then i reckon I too shall give the 'ol polypro a whirl..mahaha pardon the pun.. Overall I am interested in making my own polypro but I want to get a feel for these bad boys first and thus begin my PPE hoop makin excursion. I'm currently in the same boat as you in the sense that I have only messed around with my home-ade PE hoops..a good review would definitely be the swing vote..many thanks lady!

I got my first polypros from MoodHoops because the connectors on theirs (the "day hoops" on their store) come with a push button to coil it down and the other side is pop riveted.
Now I buy my polypro hoops from HoopSupplies because it's cheaper and I have all the equipment to do the push button and pop rivet myself. Or you could do a pop rivet on each side and it just wouldn't be collapsible. You need a drill, a 1/8" bit, 1/8" pop rivets and a pop riveter. You can buy the push buttons from HoopSupplies (need a larger drill bit for that). So anyway, now all my polypro stuff comes from HoopSupplies, but I know what you mean about the connector concern. :)
Superhooper.org is another great place to check out for polypro hoops, though I believe theirs are friction fit too. A friend got a polypro hoop that was friction fit and it was always coming apart mid-trick.

I am wanting to make an LED hoop. I have everything but the tubing and was wondering if I should go with the 7/8 od hdpe or with the 1in poly pro? I have never used either but I don't want my led hoop to be too heavy and have to make another because I don't like the first one I made. I'm use to pe 3/4 100psi or 1/2 125psi. Would it be worth the extra twenty bucks to get the poly pro? I'm just worried 1in will make it heavy.. Thanks!

Permalink Reply by leiruM on June 24, 2012 at 10:10pm Go polypro! Yes tubing does crack much easier, but in my experience I have YET to have a hoop crack on me. I've owned polypro through hot and cold and haven't had issues with the hoops breaking. It's literally been nothing but good since I went pro..polypro.

I've been using polypro for nine months and love it. I went directly from 1/2" 125psi PE tubing to 3/4" polypro. If you're using the 1/2" PE you'll like the polypro, I think. Go for it! It's an adjustment, but when I first got mine I loved them so much I didn't touch my other hoops for weeks. Now I use allllll sizes. The one I pick up usually depends on my mood and the music I'm listening to. :) I <3 all hoops.
