ok, so i usually hoop with a 5/8 o.d polypro hoop. For those of you not number savy ( im not eihter) thats the thinnest tubing, thinner than 1/2 black tubing. its awesome. cept for the fact that they dont make LEDS that skinny. I have asked jeremiah of hoop daddy and some other makers as well and apprently its too thin for the wiring etc at the moment. SO, my question is, im willing to get a 3/4 polypro LED, and have been looking at a few. my friend just got a helix proton. and i know people that have gotten a hoopdaddy pheonix. Neither are compatible with a mac which i hate but whatever. one has a remote but thats not really cruaical to me ( hoop daddy), prices are similar. so my question is which should i get? im used to such a light hoop? i know hoop daddy is 11 ounces, but not sure about proton. rattling? charging? etc? anyone can give insight? its a hefty price ( 400 range) and i wanna do my research with hands on hoopers.
thanks in advance. i have looked at other forums but wanted to give my background with a fresh feed. feel free to link me to some i may have missed. thanks in advance again.
PS. hoop daddy apparently isnt making them anymore till he catches up on orders. i want mine within a month.

P.S. I also have a Mac. I wish somebody would make a Mac compatible hoop.
Permalink Reply by Jessica Racine on July 18, 2012 at 9:42am Helix or phoenix, both are awesome, but I'm not sure if hoop daddy is making the phoenix right now.
I have a helix and I freaking love it. 3/4 polypro, it doesn't come in 5/8. weight is 10 or 11 oz (its on the site)
Don't want to make atomic owners sad, but I would say don't bother with the atomic pro- it's not as cool and costs more than the helix. long wait time (8 weeks) but it is worth it. The maker says mac compatible software is coming soon.
The Phoenix is Mac compatible....he has the little Mac logo right on the bottom of the info page for it.
I would go with a Phoenix when they are available again. I have one and it is seriously the craziest hoop ever. It totally blows atomics out of the water and I think being able to customize the patterns allows for awesome effects. I really like the "chase" effects that the Phoenix has - I haven't seen any video footage of the Helix that has chase patterns, so I don't know if the Helix can do them. But they make for trippy isolations and body hooping.
I don't know when he will be making them again but if I was given the choice again, I would wait for the Phoenix.

I've followed Craig of Proton Labs through the process of pumping out the Helix, and although the wait time is slow he seems like a *genuinely* good person. He also includes a sweet warranty you should check out.

Permalink Reply by Agillustration on July 25, 2012 at 7:58pm I have recently found someone on fb that i was f riends with making a hoop that will be released soon called the synth. batter battery. 100 bucks less and no GAP. itdont htink u can customize patterns etc but thats not important to me. his fb page is LED artistry. name is david. im looking into that one too.

Thanks for the heads up, agillustration! I am totally interested in a smart hoop without a gap. We'll see what the synth is like.
Permalink Reply by Jessa-B on July 26, 2012 at 1:15am I had the same problem as you and I ended up getting a helix, I've had it for 2 months now and I love it. It's bigger tubing yeah, but you'll get used to it quick, plus it's sooooooooooo preeeeeetty. You will always be a little off on leds cause they're obviously heavier than a standard day poly 5/8, getting used to a tad bigger tubing is well worth it. good luck. :)
Permalink Reply by billie bo jangles on August 23, 2012 at 11:26am i think the atomic is the way to go... my friends and I have all of the smart hoops and i still would push the atomic... it IS the same price, and i like the patterns better on it than the other hoops. the only thing i wish is that the atomic could switch randomly between settings but the setting are so easy to go through that i know i can change them while still spinning.
it also depends on your style of hooping. the helix is more flashing that if you like to perform for more electic stuff maybe thats the hoop for you but i like the simplicity of some of the setting on the atomic (some almost look like poi or something). idk honestly they are all about the same i dont think one is CRAZIER or BETTER than the other, just get one of each and call it a day ha

" just get one of each and call it a day ha"
haha i like the way you think ;)
