I'm not that embracing of technological changes-so I haven't purchased the latest ipod or anything like that.  But, I want to be able to play music outside when I practice, or have people together for jam without needing a power source.

I don't want to spend an enormous amount of money-but I would like something fairly decent.

Suggestions?  What do you use?

ebay is awesome for finding something like an MP3 player or ipod. my boyfriend got a $200 ipod for a little over $50. and you can find ipod stations that are as big as a regular stereo or as small as an alarm clock. a majority of them run on batteries. there is also something that we found, i think at target, a portable ipod speaker that is about the size of a wallet. the ipod/MP3 fits inside, connects to a battery source with a small wire, and goes right to the speaker on the front of the pouch. it is awesome!! the speaker is really loud and clear considering how small it is. my bf bought it to clip on to his disc golf bag when ever he went to play golf with his friends.
check out the blockrockers. my friend just bought one and loves it!
I have a similar set up to Spin Gypsy, probably the same thing. and I just use my old school ipod shuffle. It holds about 8 hours of music and is small. It does not have a lcd display to show you what is playing but I usually know what I have put on my ipod any how.

I saw an add for this and it looks really cool, not sure how practical, but super neat! It's called the Rock-it
you stick it to an object and the vibrations turn what ever you stick it to into a speaker, whether it is a milk carton or whatever.
I'm not uber tech savvy, but I do have an mp3 player that I LOVE!!!! I have a Sony Walkman mp3 player. It holds 8 gigs of music and it holds a charge for 45 hours! I can use this for weeks at a time without having to charge it or add additional music. It's really simple to use and it has an output on it that allows you to hook it up to an ihome station. I have a little ihome that I take with me to the park. It's small and has a little bag and it runs on batteries. The mp3 player was $75 at Best Buy and the ihome was $19.99 at Wal Mart. =) Hope this helps.
The Ion Block Rocker is amazing. It has a rechargable batteries, wheels, big sound and is very sturdy. It plays any ipod, most phones or an mp3 player. It will even recharnge an ipod while playing. The battery lasts about 20 hours (though they say 12). It costs about $199=240 but if you get it from Amazon.com, you get free shipping. You can also hook multiple block rockers together for even bigger sound if you ever do a performance troupe. It also has a mic, and places to plug in up to two guitars. I love mine.

Here is a video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU740rfgzbA (but you don't have to buy it from rockbandparts.com)
Thanks everyone! I've been thinking of getting an ipod nano, along with a logitech pure-fi speaker set. I've found some refurbed speakers for 64 bucks (canadian dollar). http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/logitech-logitech-pure-fi-an...
