Yay! Getting quick wicks for my bday and I'm soo rdy for my first burn. Wondering what you guys recommend as far as spine and wick sizes go. They offer 1" wicks w/ 4.5" and 5.5" spines, and 1.5" wicks w/ 5" and 6" spines. The biggest hoop I use is 36", typically smaller. Would love any advice on this. Peace and love fellow hoopers Xx

How tall are you ?  How comfortable are you with fire?   One thing  that you have to consider is your height because longer Spines will make some tricks more difficult because they will hit the ground then they can bend easily or even break if they are not flexible.  So, if you are short and hooping with a 36" hoop and are comfortable with fire I would recommend the shorter spines.  If you are on the taller size and just want to get the feel of it and are not worries about it scraping the ground I would try the 6" spines.  I started with 6 inch spines.. but I am only 5ft 1 and it proved to be a problem quick.

oh and I don't have the quick wicks so not sure how flexible they are. I hear they are AWESOME and really want to try them.. sooooon as I have the money

i have the longer spines and 1.5" wicks, yes the longer spines limit some tricks but after seeing my friend's fire hoop with a hole burnt in it the extra length on the spine seemed like the safer way to go for me

I love my quick wicks!!  The spines are flexible and durable.  I play with my fire hoop unlit to test out tricks, and I've hit the ground more often than I'd like to admit, lol.

I'm 5'1 and opted for the 5" spines with the 1.5" wicks.  My hoop is 32" so I like everything kind of compact.  When I'm chest hooping, the flames go pretty close to my face, but I can do vertical moves more easily without slamming the spines on the ground.  With shorter spines, you can really feel the heat on your hand.  And yes, you can burn your hoop if you hold your hoop still for too long.  4.5" is a bit short for me, but the longer lengths take away the versatility of some tricks.

Are those sizes including the wicks or are they the length the bottom of the wicks are from the hoop?
Just measured and they include the wick.

Also, the FAQ says that the wick size varies for the burn time.  That might help you decide too.

I just ordered some.  I use a very large hoop and I'm a newbie fire spinner.  I wound up getting the 5" spine in 1.5 wick.  1.5 offers longer burn according to the FAQ and I didn't want to get a super long spine because of how big my hoops are.  I'm already planning to go down a few hoop sizes for my hoop but I still want it to be comfortable for me.

if you're new to fire hooping...definitely get the longer spines, but use them with a smaller hoop. i've used 4" spines and they are pretty intimidating. and hot.

on the other hand, i feel completely comfortable with my 6" spines. if you're going with the bigger size, use them with a smaller hoop though, or you'll feel particularly awkward. remember, you're adding 12" of diameter!!

Awesome you guys have been so helpful. I'm 5'1" so I'm glad you pointed out that height matters. I'm leaning toward the 1.5" wick, 5" spine...but does anyone know if this makes it 6.5" total, or is the 1.5" in reference to the wick's diameter? 6.5" seems pretty long.
get the smallest size hoop that you can manage since the wicks/spokes add extra length and weight making the hoop feel bigger and move like a bigger hoop. i got a 36" hoop and my quick wicks are the 5" spokes with 1.5" wicks from synergy, and loooove them. it was my first fire hoop. the longer spokes are good if you do mostly on body moves, but the shorter spokes give you better clearance if you like off body moves. the wick size is just how big the flame will be and how long your burn time will last. i think 1.5" is a nice medium if you want an impressive flame for viewers without it scaring the crap out of yourself haha. if u have any more questions ask lindsayrap@aol.com, i know what its like to be confused about this purchase
Thank you for posting this I'm in the same boat. Getting quick wicks soon and I normally hoop with a 33" hoop so I';m confused with what size I should get too. I do a lot of off body tricks but I like to shoulder hoop a bit too. Any suggestions?
i suggest getting the smallest hoop that you are comfortable shoulder hooping with. quick wicks you can attach and re-attach to any size hoop really so you can experiment :)
