Yay! Getting quick wicks for my bday and I'm soo rdy for my first burn. Wondering what you guys recommend as far as spine and wick sizes go. They offer 1" wicks w/ 4.5" and 5.5" spines, and 1.5" wicks w/ 5" and 6" spines. The biggest hoop I use is 36", typically smaller. Would love any advice on this. Peace and love fellow hoopers Xx

Permalink Reply by Tammy Yan on July 8, 2011 at 10:50pm I love my quick wicks!! The spines are flexible and durable. I play with my fire hoop unlit to test out tricks, and I've hit the ground more often than I'd like to admit, lol.
I'm 5'1 and opted for the 5" spines with the 1.5" wicks. My hoop is 32" so I like everything kind of compact. When I'm chest hooping, the flames go pretty close to my face, but I can do vertical moves more easily without slamming the spines on the ground. With shorter spines, you can really feel the heat on your hand. And yes, you can burn your hoop if you hold your hoop still for too long. 4.5" is a bit short for me, but the longer lengths take away the versatility of some tricks.

I just ordered some. I use a very large hoop and I'm a newbie fire spinner. I wound up getting the 5" spine in 1.5 wick. 1.5 offers longer burn according to the FAQ and I didn't want to get a super long spine because of how big my hoops are. I'm already planning to go down a few hoop sizes for my hoop but I still want it to be comfortable for me.
Permalink Reply by Gretchen / Alice on July 9, 2011 at 1:20pm if you're new to fire hooping...definitely get the longer spines, but use them with a smaller hoop. i've used 4" spines and they are pretty intimidating. and hot.
on the other hand, i feel completely comfortable with my 6" spines. if you're going with the bigger size, use them with a smaller hoop though, or you'll feel particularly awkward. remember, you're adding 12" of diameter!!
