Hi Ya'll...I'm Stack.

On September 1st...so last Wednesday...I made hoops for my dds (11, 7 and 5) and me. And we started hoopin' ... Woo hoo!

Here is my question...I can't get the dad-blamed thing to stay up on my waist...AT ALL. I've watched quite a few videos on it...and I get that you are supposed to push against where it touches you...but I feel like I'm chasing the hoop and it just falls down.

Now I'm a bigger girl...so if that would affect how to keep it going let me know...but mostly, I'm hoping you either have advice or encouragement...

My 7 year old is giving me a complex. ;)

Congratulations! That's awesome. I would let the water out of the hoop you have and keep it. It won't be so floppy without water in it. Just drill a little hole and turn it upside down in the bathtub to drain the water out. It'll probably work fine (maybe even better) without the water.

Great job girl! Yay!!!!
Great photos! What happy faces. I read your blog too. Three cups of water is way more than I would use. Usually about a cup is all you need. You just want to have an opposing force so you can feel the push and pull against you.
That is awesome!!! I LOVED the photos. Congrats!!
I think I learn five different things every time you post. Thank you for being such an active member here... Your expertise does not go unnoticed. =)
I agree and have completely enjoyed the little I have read so far!
I'm so happy that it's starting to work! Keep going at it, it's great.

And isn't it just the best feeling ever when it starts to click? Myself, I've always been the tall, fat girl with glasses that sucked at sports. When I started out hooping, I got myself a kids' hoop: it was flimsy, small and filled with water. SO. NOT. GOOD. But I stuck with it and after a few days I could keep it up around my waist and I just kept going at it until I could lift it up. Now I'm still not accomplished as a hooper, so much left to learn, but I'm getting there, and I'm finally good at something. I love being able to do something sporty and dancy and beautiful. Keep going, it's worth every bruise and every disappointment.
I'm glad it's working out for you! When I started hooping I only had a child sized hoop and I MADE myself keep it up, and I did, but I couldn't do any tricks with it! The bigger the better, and when you start getting better you can go smaller if you want to (:
so happy to hear you and your family are hooping!
i'd definitely recommend a bigger hoop. i started out with a 42" and i feel like beginners should use a bigger and heavier hoop. spinning in the direction your hoop is moving can help to keep up the speed and therefore keep the hoop up.
i also like the idea spin gypsy had about closing your eyes too!

don't get frustrated, don't give up. it just takes practice! you'll get it and it will be worth the work! please keep us updated on your progress! have fun!
