I have been wanting to make this topic since I got my ticket ages ago! I'm pretty damn excited it's almost that time of year again.  Shambhala is so special to me because it was the impetus that got me hooping, and now I will be spending my one year Hoopiversary there!  I would love to hear your stories, anticipations, and impressions of being a hoopdancer at Shambhala, as I have heretofore only experienced being a normal person there.   To get started, I have created a small survey of questions I have for attendees:

Where are you from?  How far will you be traveling?

Personally I'm from Golden, BC so I only have to travel five hours.  I will spend far more time in line than I will en route!

How many hoops will you bring?

All of them!  Haha I hope I don't lose any.

What is your LED/battery situation like?

Barely enough for one night!  I need to buy like a dozen more lithium ion batteries.\

How many costumes will you bring specifically for hooping in?

Two for sure, three if I can stop playing video games and make sweet music with my sewing machine during every spare moment of the next month.

Which artist are you most excited to see?

Longwalkshortdock!!!!

If you've been before:

Where did you hoop the most?

How does being a hooper affect hanging with your non-hooping friends? ( Are you more stationary, letting them come and go or do you find yourself lugging hoops around?)

If you indulge, how does the partying affect your hooping?

Where are you from?  How far will you be traveling?

I am in Edmonton. So however long that is I think maybe 15 hours. We may go to Nelson first and meet some peeps first though. Shall see!

How many hoops will you bring?

Hmmm... I plan on bringing as many as I can. For sure 3 or 4 but yeh worried about keeping an eye on them; but I guess they aren't made out of gold!

What is your LED/battery situation like?

I don't have an LED I wish. I have considered buying one. But as this is my first time to be at Shambhala I don't want to have to worry about it at this time. I know I'll be wandering and so amazed at all the stuff going on .

How many costumes will you bring specifically for hooping in?

I have some accessories I plan on bringing. Haven't really thought about this except some pants which I found that I have already practiced in this past month.

Which artist are you most excited to see?

Honestly. Anyone and Everyone. I was looking and listening to the artists the other night during a night shift and I am so excited to squeeze in people from all over the grounds. I feel like I may really enjoy the psytrance though

How does being a hooper affect hanging with your non-hooping friends? ( Are you more stationary, letting them come and go or do you find yourself lugging hoops around?) ---> this is what I am worried about to be honest. my boyfriend is coming with and he enjoys watching me hoop at least but that would be boring for him I'm sure. we shall see.

If you indulge, how does the partying affect your hooping? i have hooped once while intoxicated. not  pleasant :P I guess I shall find out how things go over this time

Thanks for sharing everyone!!! I hope to meet alot of you!

OH so excited for shambles this year! I just got back from Astral Harvest and I am so ready for more festivaling.

Where are you from?  How far will you be traveling?

I am from Edmonton. I will be driving about 11 hours. Doing the trip all myself in one run too, damn car full of people don't have licenses.

How many hoops will you bring?

I am bringing my day hoop and my atomic for sure, maybe my minis. I will bring my minis if I work harder and learn some more by then :P

What is your LED/battery situation like?

I might be able to squeeze 2 nights out of it... will bring my charger if I ever find an outlet.

How many costumes will you bring specifically for hooping in?

I have a few that work well for hooping. I can pull off hooping in my tails if I remember to grab it during knee hooping.

Which artist are you most excited to see?

Oh so many! Delhi 2 Dublin, Subvert, 12th Planet, Zeds Dead, ill Gates

I really enjoy hooping in the cooler forest areas during the day but the music at the beach is too hard to pass up sometimes.

How does being a hooper affect hanging with your non-hooping friends? ( Are you more stationary, letting them come and go or do you find yourself lugging hoops around?)

I don't mind being alone if everyone has moved on, they usually come and tell me or get me. I tend to carry hoops around more during the day no problem but at night I run my led home.

If you indulge, how does the partying affect your hooping?

I am definitely more sloppy by the end of the weekend, especially if it has been unrelentingly hot. I usually quite enjoy hooping in different states of mind, can learn something new and interesting.

I don't swear often o forums, but I FUCKING love LWSD... Caught him at Astral this year and now I'm considering going to Shambs again just to catch his set. I was a total groupie at his set and spent most of my time right at the stage.... Oh man....

I love Shambhala, but I feel too old to deal with all the walking, etc. I may pack extremely light and hike in real close to the stages. I'm trying to convince hubby to take a week off and we can volunteer there and bring our kiddos.... Lots to decide in the next week.

He's playing at Motion Notion in Golden at 11 pm this Saturday night as well!  So stoked I get to see him twice!

Thanks for your replies people, very helpful!

I wish I could make it. Unfortunately, I'm booked for a gig this weekend and have already done two festivals... Not sure how many more I can squeak out having two kiddos. Maybe someone will want to pay for my ticket to Shambhala if I babysit their children for most of the time. My youngest loves LWSD and I would make sure he made it to his set. Lol
