I'm looking for something that I can use while teaching.  I'd love any advice that you may have.  =)

Oh, well any speaker will work so long as it has an Auxiliary cable input (it's looks just like a headphone jack, but for input) Just plug the iPad into the speakers via the headphone port on the iPad.

You'd be surprised at the amount of volume you can get from speakers like the "iHome"  or other smaller rechargeable speakers. If it's an indoor class, in a room that's not huge, that might be enough. And it's super easy to transport. You can test most speakers at electronics stores before you buy them.

Or you can get supa-fancy and go wireless with Bluetooth speakers. :) I'd say if you don't need much space, go small with something portable and rechargeable. Otherwise look into the larger "boom box" like speakers. Those can get loud if you need it, but they either need to be plugged in, or use something like 8 C or D batteries.

Thanks for the education. I really don't know anything at alla bout this. The space I'm is a warehouse, so I need something pretty big I think.

Philo from Hooping.org likes these systems if you're looking for something a bit more powerful. I think I'm going to try to get one by the spring for outdoor hoop jams.

Super helpful! Thank you!

You know what I just realized... those are both for ipods and I need something for an ipad.  Hmm....  Still stumped on how to handle this.  Trying to do some more research on my own, but since I lack the technical jargon, I'm sinking.  :S

I think they should work for iPads too. As long as you can use an auxiliary cable or an RCA line (both can do RCA line) you can plug just about anything into it. The red/white ends of the RCA line should plug into the unit, then the other end of the cable plugs into the headphone jack on an iPad, iPod, computer, etc.

Thank you so much Tilly.  I know I sound completely electronically illiterate, and I am.  You have been so helpful.

So, if I were to purchase this http://www.nextag.com/Scosche-Industries-showTIME-iPod-623523872/pr...

Then, I would just use that to plug into one of those big bad boys you posted?

I'm getting close!  Thank you!!!!

It may come with the RCA cable, but this is what you're looking for:

The difference is the one you posted will plug into the charging/usb port on the iPod/iPad and the one I posted just plugs into the headphone jack (and can be used for anything that has a headphone jack). Both will work. The NewEgg one I posted is $6. You can also pick them up at BestBuy, Target, Walmart, etc.

Ok.  Thank you.  I understand it all now.  =)  Yeah!

I really like the ease of the Bosch unit. I had a block rocker for a few years and the battery die and the unit is shot as a portable device (I can still plug it in and use it that way).  In searching for a replacement, I left the "entertainment" units and went durable and loud.  That's when I found all the options in the hardware store.  The Bosch has a great sound, 4 speakers + bass, is lighter than the block rocker (although it does not have wheels) and has a detachable/rechargeable battery!  Also, it has power outlets to run other devices...  I love it!  I found mine on Amazon w/free shipping!  Troo Hoops is accurate about how to connect everything together.  You can also connect other speakers to this one for extra sound!  Much luck!

Thank you for the review.  Are you referring to something like this?

And to be clear, I could hook my ipad up in the same way that was described above for the other units?

That is exactly the one I  have - I am impressed by your computer skills!.  I do not have an Ipad, I have an Ipod but the idea is the same.  I use a simple cable from the speak hole to the input on the Bosch. There are tons of options, check out the specs on the website. Works great and is LOUD!  I really like this unit better than the rocker as a little kiddo touched the Ipod in the dock the second time I used it and the dock never worked again + the battery issue I mentioned previously.  This one is super durable and I really like the 4way speakers - I can put this in the center of the room with the extra hoops and everyone can hear well.  Menards carries the smaller unit, I am sure you could go there and check out the connections.  I either carry it to events or better yet, put it on a small dollie with a bag of "essentials" on top and am ready to go (I do alot of festivals and birthday parties).  Hope this helps... Mary
