I'm going to visit family for the holidays and need to take a hoop with me (what would I do without my hoop?) So anyway I'm wondering what would be my best option- carry it on the plane if possible (~40" folded) or check it? I was hoping to secure it onto the outside of my checked bag so it doesn't get separated or crushed but I don't know if they'll let that go. I'm just bringing an extra hoop w/ vinyl or hockey tape, so hopefully not too enticing to be stolen or "lost" nor expensive if something does happen.

i just bought a helix collapse hoop from cosmicfiredance.com really inexpensive and you know its small enough to clip to your carry on bag. i would rather carry mine on a plane bc you have no idea what can happen if you checked it. stuff gets lost all the time and then you may not have a hoop. that would be upsetting. good luck with that. ill be flying in may and im trying to think of ways to take a fire hoop on a plan lol
*plane haha
I know someone who was prevented from taking a BodyHoops Infinity hoop onto a plane as carry-on luggage because "You might use it to restrain a member of the crew by putting it around their shoulders" !!!

The best Hoop I have found for easy travelling on a plane is the Hoopnotica Travel Hoop. They are really well made and very transportable because they will easily fit inside even a medium sized suitcase, so no worry about it being damaged whilst strapped onto the outside of the case.

You can buy them from http://www.hoopnotica.com in the USA, or from my website, http://www.hoopguy.com in the UK, or the rest of Europe. (Yes, I can ship this to anywhere in Europe for the same price as stated for UK shipping. This is because they are small enough to class as a "small packet" for interntaional shipping via the Royal Mail in the UK.

Of course, if you are happy to strap a hoop onto the outside of your case then the BodyHoops Infinity is a great travel hoop as well. Again available from my website in the UK, or from http://www.BodyHoops.com in the USA. I have been using one of these as my main hoop for over two years now, and it is still going strong (although I have retaped it once).

Happy Hooping and Travelling !!!

Hey

This was really helpful for me as Im from the UK and looking for a travel hoop too. Anyone know anything about the hoopgirl collapsible hoop?

Im not quite sure what size it is but looks good to me and not too expensive :)
A friend and I traveled from SFO to Vegas and our hoops got valeted! They took our hoops at the gate and attached special tags to them...stored them for us.....and then at the end of the flight, they got hand delivered back to us! They were pretty much Rockstars! I would just suggest calling your airline ahead of time to check your options! Good luck!
All good ideas...I am wondering too about this...let meknow how it goes, thanks!
i make the infinity collapsible hoops and i would think it would be fairly easy and wouldnt hurt it to collapse it and then just put it in the bottom of your bag/suitcase...maybe in between some clothes just to be safe....that way you arent spending a ridiculous amount of money right at the holidays on a new hoop just so you can travel AND anything can happen when you get on a plane....if you lose it on the trip it wouldnt be a huge loss....just sad :( Good Luck! and Happy HoopiDays! sorry, i know i'm a cornball
mine coil down (its an ledheadyhoop.com hoop) i just strap them to the outside of my bag. they would fit in my luggage but i would rather have it with me verses checking them. i travel all the time for work... i take my hoops with on every trip!
I've checked my hoops, as long as they are collapsable and inside my bag. I have one big suitcase and my hoops fit perfectly if I put them in there diagonally.
I make my hoops collapsible figure 8 style and put it inside my suitcase or clipped to my carry on, no problems. this is what i plan on doing in 2 days. i heard if youre traveling with multiples you can also just wrap them in some fabric and check them.
I have the "break-apart" hoops from hoopnotica & troohoops and have never had a problem carrying them on the plane ( except for the one time that the stewardess didn't store it carefully in the overhead compartment so an angry old lady bitched me out about how it "kept falling on her head").

Next year I plan on getting a collapsible LED hoop so I will find out how that works as a carryon!
I saw a girl in the airport with a collapsed hoop going through security. I have no idea what happened when she got to her plane. You'd have to call the airline.

a way out of the hoop

I'm stuck in a loop with the hula hoop. When I was a little girl I was abused in every which way. Often I was grounded to my bedroom, with two bathroom visits and a dinner release. In my bedroom held my boom box. Loud music would draw my angry step father towards my room. But I had to dance, so from a young age I would take a few preventable beatings so I could dance in my bedroom. Pretending I'm dancing on stage with Brain Setzer, I had trained myself to ingore reality while I dance. Even…

I haven't posted for a very long time, but I have something worth sharing.  In the last couple of years, I have advanced enough to start teaching and I absolutley love my classes.  All my students are wonderful its the most favorite part of my week. Through a very unfortunate series of events, every hoop I own, including my hoops for students, were taken and no longer in my possession. I was so upset ,not for myself, but my students would have nothing to take class with. There…
