Hey! I was worried too about taking my hoops with me on a United flight. But so far no worries. Friday I went from Tampa to Denver with no problem. I had 4 collapsible hoops in my big suitcase that I checked. 1 is an LED mood hoop that coils down and connects to itself. No problems there. Then I had my psi LED hoop that comes apart but doesn't really coil. That one I took apart and taped as small as I was comfortable and I added my biggest regular collapsible (41") to it and carried them on. No problems. It fit through the bag scanner (just barely) and the guy stared at it for a few moments and asked if it was a hula hoop. I said yes and he said "Cool, it must light up." I said it did and everyone was happy. On the plane I fit it in the overhead and just asked that no one put anything on top of it. The guy next to me had a motorcycle helmet that he settled in the middle of the hoops. All was good. I just acted like it was no big deal and if anyone was going to question me I was ready to say "I had called earlier and they said it was ok." :)
I've taken a travel hoop in a suitcase and I attached an infinity collapsible to my backpack and carried it on. It worked fine, no one questioned it other than to ask if they were hula hoops.
I recently flew from Philadelphia to Seattle with an LED hoop and a collapsible hoop. I had no problems at all. The collapsible was small enough to fit on the conveyer belt at security, but I had to ask them about the LED hoop. The first time, they just asked what it was, took it, and inspected it. The flight home, they asked me to turn it on. I had coiled it down to about 2/3 of it's actual size, so it wasn't THAT big anymore. I had a layover in Chicago, and on the flight to O'Hare, I had to gate check the hoops, but they were there waiting for me when I got off the plane. On the longer flight, I just asked if I could put them in the coat closet. No one really gave me a hard time about them at all though, during the whole thing. You should be fine, and my LED still works like a champion. The biggest advice I'd give is to just act like you're in control the whole time. If you're confident that you'll be okay flying with them, no one will really question your judgement.
It's easiest of you have or make collapsible hoops. When I went to San Francisco I took my day hoops on with me and my Led and fire I put in my suitcase and all was good.

Hm. none of mine coil down :( maybe i should learn how to make a collapsible...:(

Still not sure about my LED though, its NEW and was 300. Hmmm...

Thanks thought! :)
