The other day one of my students was telling me about a festival she was going to, and I realized I am pretty green in terms of knowledge on this. So tell me, what is the best fest you've hooped at?? Where is it? When is it? What kind of tunes?

I think this is based on opinion and personal experiences at a certain festival. I've heard people say they love burning man and I have heard from people they didn't like it. I've heard this both for Electric forest, Wakarusa Music Festival, Shangri La etc.

Some of my favorites would be Kanrocksas, Harvest Music festival, and Wakarusa music festival. Kanrocksas didn't happen this year but is coming again in 2013, it's not the best for hula hooping since they are not confirmed on if they want to allow people to bring them but the environment was very fun. Harvest is Oct10-14 at Mulberry mountain same place for Wakarusa Music Festival which happens in June.

I'd have to say that Wanee Music Festival in Live Oak, Florida was the best festival i've attended.  Not much can top 2 nights of both Furthur and The Allman Brothers, one right after the other!  All the music was phenomenal and the vibes being sent out by everyone were equally as incredible.  I don't think i've ever felt more at home at a festival nor have I ever been as sad leaving one.  The Spirit Of Suwannee music park is one of the most beautiful venues, with spanish moss hanging from trees and a river you can swim and rope swing into.  It's also super clean! I was barefoot the whole weekend..with no foot injuries. Lots of friendly hoopers as well, all hooping at different levels so its pretty neat to watch and play around.  I think this year it falls on the 19-21 of April..but I could be wrong.  They have different kind of music there for all of your ears needs..but mostly people just playing some crazy jams.  I am also attending Bear Creek this year in November at the same venue which will probably be equally as good.  Check it out!

I second Wanee- love it & absolutely my fave festival.Hoop "pits" by the mushroom stage... and it's April 18-20 for 2013. (can you tell I can't wait?) SOSMP has festival year round though. -http://musicliveshere.com/content/

Not sure where your student is though, this festie is in FL? What area would you most want to know about?

I teach in Texas, but it doesn't seem that there are that many here that aren't during the extreme heat of summer :(

maybe try jambase then?

That's an awesome site, thank you!!

Shambhala! Its in salmon BC. The most beautiful place on earth. My life changed in that magical land.
I 2nd Wakarusa!!! And I love Global Dance Festivals as well, and EDC

BEAR CREEK MUSIC FESTIVAL.

Seriously, it is so much fun. Four days camping in the Florida winter makes for crisp, sunny days and cold, fiery nights. It's at the Spirit of the Suwannee music park (the same place that hosts Wannee as the person above pointed out) - that park is so clean and friendly, everyone is super nice. There's TONS of beautiful camping spots and lots of room for hooping. And amaaaazing funk bands!! You really can not miss it. :]

I can't wait to go this year!

Wakarusa was a wonderful, fantastic festival, but I'm with others in that I prefer smaller festivals.

Rootwire in Logan, OH is probably my favorite festival that I've ever been to.  It's small, has a very community oriented vibe to it, and the music is fantastic!  They even have a few raised platforms around the main stage for hoopers and other flow artists to perform on.

One of the best experiences I have ever had was at Rootwire in Logan Ohio. It is on the smaller side but it is truly an amazing experience. The feeling of community, spirituality, art and music are all unified at this festival! A must go to if you have never been there before!
