i have noticed over and over people going down from the lasso part of the vortex and instead of putting it on their waists they drop it right to knee hooping..
i have tried to do this but i just end up dropping it on the floor every time..
what is the secret to this move.. is it in the hand or the leg or..in the mind..
no seriously can anyone give me a few tips ?
i know i would get it on my own eventually but i thought i would tap the info of the many talented hoopers we have here

I just kept lowering the vortex

I would drop it on my waist,

Then my hips,

Now I drop it mid thigh/high knee and no problem.

Whisking it up from knee hooping is a whole other story, though - unless I turn physically with the hoop, it skitters out of control.
That's funny... for me it helps to turn when lowering (gets your legs in motion, I think may be the reason) but whenever I turn when lifting I lose the angle & risk whacking my head! For some reason the lift works best for me when it's super quick & straight up. I guess everybody's a little different... part of what makes teaching tricks so tricky!

I agree completely about just lowering the drop step by step, though. That's the way I learned to leg hoop too.
For me it was getting the timing right & nearly-beginning the movement of my leg before I bring the hoop down to that point of my body.

Also, if I'm hooping counter-clockwise, I bring the hoop down from lasso & turn as I do so. Just slightly -- probably a quarter turn. So I turn in the direction my hoop is spinning (45 degree turn) & the hoop is in my left hand being brought down.

Sometimes you don't even need to place it too low, the momentum of you bringing it down from above your head can sometimes be enough (as you're discovering!).

You have to actually give it a shove as you drop it. I can't just drop it hope for momentum to take over! I spin as I do it, give it a spin with my hand for some speed, and also put up my grounding leg so it's ready to catch it and continue the circular motion that my hand started. I hoop left, so I bring it down with my left hand, spin slowly, and when I get to my thighs, give it a spin with my thumb for the first revolution, and my left leg is ready to catch it on the second revolution. At this point it may get a little wanky, so be ready with the opposite leg to help even it out. Have fun...this is a good one!
you could also try pushing it from your chest to your knees or from your waist to your knees. the push is what makes the difference and it's the same movement just from a different level.
oh! i love this one too! I dont have time to read everyones comment so if I repeat anything forgive me ;) I find that you just need a smooth hand transition for this! Its all about spinning in your natural direction as you bring the hoop down....dont just stop in place. It is also hard to do this if you cant spin as you knee hoop not sure if that is a prob at all. Try just shoulder hoop first....start spinning and bring the hoop down to the waist....try again a weee bit lower and lower and lower till youv got it at your knees! Hope this help babe!

I 2nd hat Ishkara said, if you can learn to bring your vortex lower and lower with a flat (being the hoop is in proper plane that it is comfortable to return to your body) consistent result, then with a little spin movement as others have mentioned you should be able to release the hoop onto your knees.

I haven't ever really spun with it so I am only assuming this would help. But I pretty much did the above and then one day I was hoop dancing and felt the urge to vortex to my knees,and since I usually do a low vortex, managed it and didn't even realize till like a half hour later that that was new for me. haha
