I've never had my belly button pierced but i've had both of my eyebrows pierced and my ears and they've all gotten infected.  They definitely take a lot of upkeep.  You have to be very careful with cleaning and making sure that the hoop doesn't hit them, that's one of the problems with my earrings and one of my eyebrow piercings, i kept hitting them with the hoop and they got infected.  It is definitely something that you want to make sure that you want 100 % before you spend the money to get it done.  For me, it wasn't worth the trouble and the money, but that's just my opinion

dont do it. your belly will look so much prettier without a skanky belly ring =) Belly rings are not sexy. or pretty.

Wow. Very miixed feedback. I've had mine done since I was 12 and I absolutely LOVE it. I do not have any children tho so I dunno abut scars or stretch marks. Healing was actually quick for me. I say...DO IT! Its not like you couldn't take it out if you wernt satisfied! :)
