So lately I've had to deal with criticism for my unwillingness to shave under my arms, particularly from my mom who thinks it's "DISGUSTING!!!" and my boyfriend who apparently just gets weirded out by chicks with hairy armpits. I finally did shave today, mostly just so I didn't have to hear it from my mom anymore. I do feel sorta lame that I gave in like that, but after three years of being on my own, living with her just needs to be as pleasant as possible for me, ha..

I'm just trying to wrap my head around this whole stigma towards women who choose not to shave. I've seen some pretty freakin hairy dudes out there, but no one is throwing razors and shaving cream at them, but if a woman has some stubble under her arms, people get so grossed out. It's kind of ridiculous.

Let's hear it then...Ladies, do you shave? Why or why not? Guys, what's your opinion on the hairy woman?

ROFL!!!! I don't usually shave my arm pits. Once they get past the stubbly stage, I think they're lovely and soft. My husband agrees. ;-) However, one summer I didn't shave my legs and it was a disaster. It's not like I wore short skirts or anything, but I had some capris on at a festival and felt like a total freak. At a festival!?!?! I'd expected to see at least one other gal rocking out the bear legs.

I have a really relaxed attitude to shaving. Sometimes I will go for months at a time without shaving and then one day get the urge and wage war against my body hair for a couple of weeks.

My boyfriend isn't impressed when I go feral but he has no grounds to complain because I was like that when he found me. My lack of shaving for the most part makes it all the more special for him when I finally decide to do it.

I love that: "When I go feral!"
I wish I could claim credit for that. They are his words. :)

awesome XD
I don't really shave my legs in the winter if no one will see.
Hair underarms feels really creepy to me so I shave there, but I wonder how that all got started in the first place.. the whole "Women must shave!"

I'm the same exact way too

I feel the same, shaving sucks. My leg hairs used to be blonde and now they're totally black and disgusting, so I'm forced to shave now. I let it go for a winter once and even I couldn't stand the sight of it. Plus it sucked when I had to wear pantyhose and stuff like that, the hairs would get all tangled and feel wierd. Otherwise I wouldn't bother shaving my legs... Armpit hair I find a bit gross so I shave mine and I wish guys would shave theirs too, I don't like it on either sex lol. But yeah it is quite strange the way we spend so much time arranging the hairs on our bodies in certain ways, or removing it all together.

Most guys I've met don't like hairy women though :/

Wax!! Just waxing once will get them back to thin little baby hairs, again. I was pretty regularly, and besides that, the hair is also thinning... It's great! But the first time you wax in a really long time does hurt... don't go when you've got extra blood flow going to your lower extremities, if you know what I mean...
Power to you, Loretta!

I'm in the sometimes camp.  I used to shave multiple times a week, but last year my boyfriend noticed my skin was often dry and cut up so he suggested I cut back a little.  Now I shave maybe once or twice a month, usually when I have some special event going on or just want to feel silky smooth.  I'm not a big fan of hairy legs, though I will say they keep me pretty warm in the winter.  I do really dig my armpit hair though, I think it's a nice accent to my tank tops! And of course I always make sure to keep my nether-regions trimmed if not shaved just out of common courtesy for my man.  ~.^  I guess I don't shave often cause I don't like the hassle and I don't like what being an obsessive shaver does to my skin.

Since I work in the arts no one really says anything about my hairy state, but I can imagine how much it would suck to have people making a big deal about it.  Especially those close to you.  Hopefully they can come to terms with the fact that it's your body and hairiness is totally natural.  I wish you the best of luck!

I wouldn't suggest it but sometimes when I get really lazy and don't want to save my legs i'll practice some fire eating tracing ;)
hahahah i also like fire hooping for removing arm hairs
