so i got my first polypro, and i really like it, but im having a hard time transitioning over. its so much harder to keep the momentum going, and im having trouble with my reversals and stalls, they just kind of wonk out. i am used to 33 inch hoops so i got a 33 inch polypro. should i have started out a bit bigger?

is there any helpful tips on getting used to using a polypro?

I love my PEX!!
Me too! Other hoopers always comment on how smooth it feels. :)

i just got my first poly pro this summer and started out with a 33 inch YIKES its a completely different universe from what i was using before... But like someone said on this blog, using a lighter touch and less hand grip will definitely help the flow and momentum of the hoop.  I have also tried learning more off body tricks and using less waist hooping because of the coninous fast movement you have to do to keep it up.  Doing a lot of breaks, reverses, and stalls on body hooping will help keep the hoop up.  Also trying to slow your mojo down when practicing will start helping your control with the hoop so when you really get into it  it feels natural ... Once your body gets used to it I am sure muscle memory will pick right up and it will go right back to the swing of things.  Good luck with your new poly pro :0)

All Love

Have you tried taping it?

Tape will add a bit of weight/grip which might help...

taping polypro is a tricky thing.. i ordered some smaller hoops that i was used to (32'' diameter with 3/4'' tubing) and taped it because i thought the extra weight would be helpful. what i found was that the properties of the hoop that i grew to love with my 36'' polypro were gone, it became very stiff and unresponsive. one day i got impatient and un-taped the hoop and voila! flow actually happened.

i think that polypro just takes some getting used to. your movements become much more subtle because of the lightness of the material.

I started with a 35... worked well for me.  I scaled down to a 33",  1/2" tubing later on.

It's a weird thing, every time I go lighter (*Im at super light 33's now myself), I get to where I can't go back. My extra light 33 now feels as big as the 40 some inch one I used to hoop with, and is just as easy to keep going. But I try the big one and I'm like wtf! Feels so big and awkward now, I can't even fathom how I was able to do tricks with it before.

I say, just do it, and it becomes your size. :)

i know i tried my 40 incher the other day and laughed so hard. i cant believe i used to take that thing out in public. haha! it was so heavy!
I had enough of a roll of PE left to make one hoop, except if I made a regular hoop I'd be wasting a couple feet of tubing that wasn't long enough for anything else. So I made a GIANT hoop. I'm 5'2" and it comes up to my chin from the ground. Have no idea exactly what size it is. Maybe 50 inches or so? Anyway, I was playing with it outside on Friday and was able to do helicopter with it. It's heavy and huge and slow but at the same time so fun to just play with. :)
