I have done a decent bit of research and understand how to make the hoop, but am confused regarding all of the different specifications concerning weight, size, diameter, etc.
I understand that the typical adult beginners hoop is made of 1''-3/4'' poly tubing, 100-160 psi, and roughly 40'' in diameter, give or take a few inches. I would go ahead and make a 40'' hoop out of 3/4'' 160 psi tubing, but I've also read that my height and weight should be taken into consideration. I am not really the "average" sized adult.
I've measured up to my bellybutton and it's 38''. I'm 5'3.5'' in height, about 105lbs with a 25'' waist. Is my size atypical enough that I would benefit from a small/lighter hoop than the standard adult beginners hoop? But then again I don't want it to be so light that I have a hard time keeping the hoop up, correct? The information I've gathered varies enough that I'm feeling a little unsure, so I am hoping those of you with experience can help me out on this one. I'm very excited to make my first hoop and try this out! Thanks in advance!

Fast pace/ zippy moves... then a medium hoop would be best. They also wont bruise you when you move up to trying out the more advanced moves. Though starting with a big hoop is good if you don't have much prior skills in hooping, like from when you were younger.. In that case you do want to start at a larger size. It's all fun and games though. No rush to size down... I actually used a wide range of sizes from 5'5 feet to 30 inches. I find switching out dif hoops allows new challenges and space for new moved to discovered. Also it keeps things funner and interesting. Switch it up. ;D I suggest making a hoop that is your height. It's great for meditation and just goofing around in a ginormous hoop.
i'm 5'0'' and started with a 40". the bigger the hoop, the more time u have between revolutions. my friend who is 5'5'' preferred a 40" over a 38" for that reason. as u get better u'll find urself using a smaller hoop.
