I thought it might be nice to have a thread specifically for tutorial requests.

Not to mention that I have the entire day off with nothing to do, leaving me plenty of time to break down tricks.  Does anyone have a tutorial in mind they would like to see?  I've never made one before and would like to try it :]

Oooh!

I have been struggling with twirling the hoop around while holding it from the outside in just one hand, like in this video where Lady Stardust does it with doubles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSJLoDxKBKA#t=27s

I can sorta do it, but only at certain angles. I really need a breakdown to understand better! Is there a name for that trick anyway?

Also, mini hoop fountain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL4fRxIsIFc

I can do the weave both ways, but the transitions in between are just baffling! This vid breaks it down pretty well and I may be able to figure it out, but I would love a straight up tutorial.

For the fist one do you mean Z-Spins?

And that "hoop fountain" looks like the 3-beat weave. I've been working on that one myself lately which is the only reason I recognize it. Does this help?

The first one was actually addressed in another thread recently (called "Palm Roll Tutorial"). That z-spins video is really awesome though, and extremely similar. So thank you!!! I can definitely learn something from it.

As for the fountain, it does involve the 3 beat weave, but it's a combo of the forward 3 beat weave AND reverse weave, with high/low transitions and turning the body in between both weaves. This poi fountain video I found to be fairly helpful, but it's hard for me to translate poi to hoops...

And perhaps cat eyes or triangles? I've seen explanations of what they are, but not really how to do them.

so helpful!  i'd always tried to do these just by intuition but videos of myself prove my intuition was wrong...

what is a triangle??  I've never heard of that

Here is a good tutorial for the 3-petaled anti spin flower (which is what I think you mean by triangles?)

Ahh, thanks for clarifying the name for me. I didn't know what to call it.

hm anyone have a cool trick i can practice in a small room?   i have about 5x5 of hooping space with high cieling in the living room but my flatscreen is there so no crazy tricks that can brake my tv lol . and then i have like a 6x6 room with a low cieling but nothing breakable in there really.

ive only been hooping for a month, so i have a lot to learn :)

I was asking about the poi tricks because I saw this:

Sooo, you could definitely try tosses (to an extent), axis flips, and sustained spinning once you've got the basics down if space is an issue. I'm in the same boat-- can't freely do weaves, the helicopter, or chest+eagle rolls in my usual practice space. >:O

I have been trying to break down the fountain well enough to do a tutorial. Give me a couple more dayzzz. I got you boo :)
