Hey guys,
I saw this girl that did something really cool with the helicopter. Instead of it going around her she did the helicopter up above her and then down behind her. I really want to learn this! Does anyone know what im talking about and can help me out?
Thanks hoopers!

Permalink Reply by Fauna on June 15, 2012 at 4:00pm Woah I've never heard of such a trick but I'd love to see it! Is there a video of it anywhere? Perhaps they were doing a sort of one-handed helicopter with the palm spins? There's a youtube tutorial floating around for the one-handed helicopter

I dont have a video :( Ive been looking everywhere! The girl actually did it just really quickly for fun during a class she was teaching that was a beginners class for like first timers. I went to this class not realizing it was for beginner level so she wasnt teaching the trick and I felt awkward asking her to stop and show me how to do it because it wasnt something that would benefit the entire class. Since I am a bit further along in my hooping I decided not to attend any further classes but I almost feel tempted to go again just to ask her! Im going to try and see if I can get her contact information somehow and if I can get any answers ill def spread the word because it seems like its not very well known at all.
Permalink Reply by Salardora Pantz on June 16, 2012 at 9:24am Its really all in the attitude! I think you can totally do it by thinking though it. If your rotating the hoop counter-clockwise, just think of the right hand going up instead of across the front of your body, and your left hand going down, instead of across the back of your body. The wrist movement is the same. I would start trying with a smaller lighter hoop at first so that the momentum wont hurt your wrist. :) Happy Hooping!

Thats amazing advice! Cheers! And in fact I just got in contact with the person I saw doing the move- I'm extremely exciteddddd Thanks !

Update ! I got in contact with the girl who did the trick! I will be seeing her at a hoop jam and once I learn I think I'll attempt a tutorial! I'll keep ya'll in the loop ;-)

The idea of this trick really piqued my interest. I think I figured out some type of vertical helicopter, but I don't bring the hoop behind me at any point. Here's a video of my vertical helicopter (kinda sloppy and i'm pressed for space but it actually looks pretty cool I think), let me know how close this is to whatever you're thinking of. I might be up for making a tutorial if there's enough interest.

Thats AWESOME!!! Yea you should def make a tutorial. Its not exactly what I saw but its just as cool. Thank you for sharing girl :D

at 1:00 to 1:04. i have been trying to learn it, i can keep it up for a few spins but is a bit wiggly and not sure my hands are right. will keep trying it, any tips would be much appreciated! xx

Yes! that is pretty much it. When I saw the move done they didnt keep it above them for so long they would do it just as they would the regular helicopter except when they pass behind them they then pass it in front above their head just once. Now, to keep it up there, open your palm to allow it to surface spin on your palm and you can also use your pinkey and thumb to keep the rotation going.
