Hi hoopers,

I'm writing an article and working on a video about having a successful hooping business.

The best answers will be featured on my hooping blog with a link back to you and your business.

If you would like to be featured, please respond with your best tip that helped you succeed (or a tip for newbie hoopers that want to start their own business) and a link to your website or facebook page and a photo if you would like one to be included.

I'm looking for something more specific than "follow your dreams."

Thanks,

Sarah

Thanks Aurora...Very good advice! :)

Hey Sarah, as a performer I have a MAJOR tip for hoop dancers just starting out - get to know the people you are working with/for - make sure your values and reputation are not going to be compromised and affected by those representing you - stand up for yourself when you need to and if you dont feel comfortable with something, SPEAK UP!  There are so many opportunities for you to share your passion the way you want to, so walking away from something because you dont feel right, is more than likely going to benefit you then hurt you, and you will respect yourself for it and many others will respect you for it too :) follow YOUR dreams, not someone elses :)

I love it Ladydub! :) And you know I've followed that advice in the past :) I'd be happy to share your facebook page on the post as well.

Yes please... www.facebook.com/LadydubDance and i will send u a pic when i get back to my p.c.
I knew you would like that tip. It was my first lesson in performing and a much needed experience to share. Thank you for using my advice and for writing this article it will be so helpful for everyone who reads it, no doubt. Im excited to read it. Please feel free to post the link to it on my fb page and anything else hooping by sarah cares to share :)

The best tip I have is to know your customers/market.  I put out a survey sheet at hoop jams and festivals where I'm vending hoops, asking people for their contact information and what times/days are best for them for classes.  Then when I pick a day/time for a new class, I'm not shooting in the dark for a good time for folks.  I would also suggest a regular free or low cost hoop jam to build up interest.

Excellent tip Amanda! :) I agree with you on the hoop jams.

Grow your mailing list.
Do not get sucked into the "do this for the exposure" thing. You will hear if often. Name your price and know that you are worth it. Pick a charity and donate your talents to them... That is plenty of exposure.
If you say your price and they quickly agree, you can always say..."plus tax". ;)
Never burn a bridge... Always be professional in your actions.

I know that's four, but I think the are all worthwhile.
