I find myself tempted by some hooping DVDs, liek Hoopgirls´ and the advanced Hoopnotica. I´m wondering though what will all the Youtube tutorials available, will I get anything aout of these DVDs ? Do you guys have any ? Which are your favs ? Is it worth buying them if you also learn from Youtube tutorials ?

Actually I´d love to take one of SaFire´s classes, but I can´t really afford them at the moment. I´ve got the basic Hoopnotica, and I love the way it explains the basic really slowly and the troubleshooting is great too. Tutorials of the basic moves are on Youtube too, but as a beginner I really appreciated the very detailed explanations in the Hoopnotica DVD. Also, the very very graceful way Rayna dioes every move is great, you want to imitate her !
Now I pick up things much faster, watch everything that comes up on Youtube, so I´m afraid I´d be underwhelmed by Hooping DVDs. No offence to Rayna and Hoopgirl, they did a fantastic job, and I´m glad their DVDs are hitting the mainstream ! (Christabel´s Hooping Worksout is now available in a big Drogerie chain in Germany)

I'm not tempted at all by the DVDs, actually... but I do have a couple of SaFire's classses & lots of local hoopers to learn from. But I'm in the middle of a minis fixation right now & I'm learning much more from YouTube, Hoop Citizens & personal experimentation than any formal teaching. If I were you I'd save my money for now & maybe invest in one of SaFire's more advanced classes whenever you can afford it.
I really appreciated Hoopgirl's dvd Hoopdance for beginners and the hoop path's first steps. I think you can learn fine without them if money is an issue but every little bit that you take from others helps you find your own flow. I personally do best with live teachers over dvds, or you tubes. Having just spent 5 days with SaFire though, I am super excited for the mini's class!
A mix of both is what worked for me. I can tell ya that the only thing that kept me motivated to stick with basic hooping & actually nail some moves was that Hoopnotica DVD you have, so I'm always going to rec that one. The thing about many Youtube tutes is that they aren't necessarily filmed in reverse so you may end up having to reverse directions on your own. Most people seem to have no problem with that... I do! LOL

I've learned a lot from Safire's classes. The cost upfront is an investment for the sheer volume of material & support you get.
I bought the HoopGirl DVD when I first started, but honestly it was not as helpful as the youtube tutorials. There are a lot more tricks on this DVD but not as in-depth explanation, so I ended up turning back to youtube in frustration. Now I use the HoopGirl DVD for ideas on how to dance with the hoop, because I adore the way Christabel moves so gracefully with the hoop.

Personally, I recommend SaFire's classes, because each move is broken down thoroughly and shown in both currents. $55 is like the price of 2 full price DVDs; just save up for that! :)
Youtube's where it's at =) I wouldn't waste money on DVDs.
Okay, scratch what I said above. When THIS DVD comes out, I'm totally getting it!!
circularlogic: THANK YOU for ALWAYS being so up to date, 10 steps ahead.... and spreading so much hoop love. I'm right behind you in line for this DVD :)
I don't know about up to date-- it's been in the works for quite a while apparently-- but dang, doesn't it look incredible!!??
Oh my! I may have to get that when it comes out :D
The Hooping Workout in German? Oh, in which Drugstore have you seen it?? DM, Budni, Schlecker, Rossmann??? I started hooping with Christabel's beginner DVD - it was ok - but when you want to learn more tricks and especially improve the flow (which I still find quite difficult), I took SaFire's class and I hardly stop watching her tuturials and practising...So, if you can afford it sometime, I can highly recommend it - and besides, the English lessons are even free!!!
Yeah, Circular, I'm looking forward to that DVD as well!
I have the cds you mention -but they mostly collect dust - I actually gave one away. I get a LOT more from youtube and Safire's tutorials. I think everyone is different though - sometimes it helps to have different sources.
