Hello everyone!

I'm from Mexico, and I just started hooping on March and haven't been progressing much lately because I'm working on a crazy project deadline, which leaves me little time to practice to the park; I can do it on my rooftop (mad!). Also, there's a hoop class in a park near my home, but it's only on Saturdays (from 12 pm - 4 pm = peak time for errands in Mexico :/), and since it's rainy season it's not always an option.

I'm going to Houston, TX in about a month and a half. I want to get the Hoopnotica DVDs, and I wrote them but they told me they have no store in Texas. I checked Hoopnotica products in Wal-Mart online about a week ago, but now they're no longer available. Does anyone know if I can get the DVDs in Wal-Mart or another retail store? Or should I just buy them online and order them to my friend's house?

My budget is around 60 USD; I also wanted to buy a travel hoop, but since it has mixed reviews, I guess I will give priority to invest on the DVDs.

P.S. Another little question. Which Hoopnotica DVDs should I get?

The moves I know: waist-hooping, walk while hooping, 360° turns, basic corkscrews, the vortex, halos, and (very basic) isolations.

Heeelp please! :D Any advice is appreciated as well.

Gracias ;)

Hola!

I ordered my Hoopnotica DVDs online on Ebay. It was 2 for $24, I think. I recommend you get Levels 3 & 4, it sounds like you already know the basics (which is 1 & 2). A World Music and Instruction Videos was the place I bought them from. Just type in Hoopnotica in the Ebay search engine.

I found 3 & 4 to help more with my "flow", and to learn things like Arm Weaving and Angled Upper Body Spins. Plus Rayna is such a beautiful hoopdancer!

I recommend buying a collapsible hoop on Ebay or Etsy - there are some beautiful and well-crafted hoops on those sites for relatively cheap.

Good luck and happy hooping!

Hello!

When I started learning hoop I purchased all four of the DVDs and the travel hoop.  I really love my travel hoop and the grip is really great because it has fabric tape. I would suggest getting it but they are a bit pricey. I would also suggest getting levels 3 and 4 because the things you already know are on the first two DVDs. Their website sells all the things you are looking for but eBay or amazon might sell them for a bit cheaper.

Hope that helps!

I agree with Vanessa and CC about trying Amazon or Ebay. Hoopnotica doesn't really have any retail locations except for their offices in California, and while they had some products in CVS stores (mostly the Travel Hoop and level one DVD), it's not really what you're looking for. I think you'd be good with the level three and four DVDs too.

Kristie Bryant is a Hoopnotica instructor in Houston. Sometimes instructors carry Hoopnotica products to have on hand for their students (I do). I'd consider emailing her to ask if she has any of the DVDs available, or if she could even order them for you to be able to purchase from her while you're there. Her email is krosie@niamoves.com

Muchas gracias a todas :D

These are great suggestions! So, I guess that I'll order online on Ebay / Amazon and probably will get DVDs 2, 3 and 4. Since I can't still leg-hoop or chest hoop (working on it for weeks!) I think I still need DVD 2 :P

Tilly, thanks for the e-mail! I will e-mail Kristie Bryant as well ;) if she has the DVDs available it might be much easier ;)

As for the travel hoop, well, there's a girl who makes them (from HDPE) and I already bought them. Unless I run into a Hoopnotica one, I will stick to local <3

Thanks a lot to all of you girls for the advice again :D it's really helpful!!!

Update: Tilly, the email for Kristie Bryant is no longer working :( I sent her a message via the dance studio she works in, hopefully she'll answer back soon! Thanks for the tip :D

Bummer! Hopefully someone from the studio can point you in the right direction. Otherwise I've got another group of folks I an ask to see if there are any other instructors near there who might have what you're looking for. :)

Update: I said, whatever! I ordered them online on Ebay, all 4 of them for 54 USD plus shipping (7.00 USD). I tried buying only 3 of them, but there was only a difference of 4 USD, so I thought I might as well order them all. It's actually the same price, if not cheaper, than if I'd ordered only 3 of them plus shipping to Houston (to my friend's house) via the Hoopnotica website.

Let's hope they don't get here before I go to Houston ;-) I'll let you know!

Thanks for all your support and advice, I'll let you know when I'm the happy owner of these DVDs!

Robs

I has Hoopnotica <3  :D

Just watched DVD 1 & half of 2 last night... they seem very accurate and descriptive, but I must admit, they're a bit shorter than I expected, like each move is dedicated at most 3 min. but anyway, let's keep on learning!

Saludos desde México ;)
