I'm officially an aerialist (as of today) AND LOVE IT! I know I'm not experienced, and I'm not sure if I'll love it still by the end of my training, but this is how I felt when I started hoop dancing, so it feels promising!

Does anyone know where to buy good, reliable aerial equipment? I live in a place where it snows eight months of the year, so an indoor rig would be ideal. I love trapeze and silks, and I have a feeling I'll love lyra, too! If you know of a place, let me know!

Thanks!

I don't know if you have a facebook account, so you may already know this, but there is a group on facebook that sells used circus equipment. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=279264813276 They also sell hoops too. Double whammy. :)
I do have facebook, but didn't know about that group! Thanks very much!
oh yay, Hannah!! I love aerial fabric and the strength you build up on silk & trapeze will help with lyra (haven't done it yet but I can pull myself up with no problems!).

For the Blind Tiger Dames show I was in a couple of months ago, we bought an aerial rig from TrapezeRigging.com. I'm pretty sure we got the 13 foot one.

That site does sell trapeze & lyra, but not silks. I can ask my friend shiloh where she got her silks b/c she got a great deal on them! If I ever make it up to Edmonton, we gotta play circus! :)
I've heard of TrapezeRigging.com, but wasn't sure if they were a good place to buy from, how did you guys like your rig? And let me know what your friend says about the silks!

If you come to Edmonton, we will HAVE TO play circus! So much fun!! :)
Thanks for the tip on the circus equipment group!

I think it depends on where your space is. I have some silks rigged up in my house and you need a couple of pieces of hardware and a sturdy cross-beam. Of course you can buy fabrics from several places.
what sort of hardware do you use? and do you have a couple examples of places to buy fabric? I can't seem to find any! Thanks!
The resue 8 thing to secure the fabric can be purchased on the site I gave you. And I asked Molly, one of my fabric instructors, where she purchased her fabric at. She bought hers from the Vermont circus school since she knows them & I just found the link: Nimble Arts- Aerial Equipment for Sale. The Rescue-8 can also be purchased on there....they also have trapeze for sale!
Do make sure that you at least get a stainless steel 8 rather than an aluminium one from a climbing store. Also there is some pretty hot debate around about how safe 8's are compared to fabric bells and D-rings.

If you do not have a lot of experienced in rigging ariels i would find somebody locally to talk to about all of the equipment you need to safely rig at your place. There is a lot of bad information out there on the net and things can quickly go very very wrong if your equipment is not hung properly.
of course, I'm still in training and am more interested in what's out there than anything else. If I do end up getting a rig set up at my house/ a collapsible rig, I'll ask my instructors for advice with setting up - I'd really rather not fall and break something (or worse). But thanks for your concern!
The Rescue 8 is just for securing the fabric. I also have this..thing drilled into my ceiling that the 8 is clipped to. My husband is a contractor so he sorted it all out for safety. If you are practisiing in a space that has open cross-beams, then you can use climbing straps to loop around the centre point and put your rescue 8 through that.

But as other have said, safety first. Get a rigger out to look at your space and help you get set up.

The Nimble Arts Twins rock. I've purchased fabric from them before. They were also amongst my first instructors and pretty much my favourites.

Yeah, check out http://www.aerialempowerment.com they are professional and less expensive than most of the other aerial sites.

Hey there, if you're still looking for a lyra, I have a good friend that makes them, and sells them on etsy. They are significantly cheaper than other sites I've seen them on. Check her out here:
