I feel like it's time to tackle making my first LED. I've been making hoops for the small, (but growing), hooper community in my area for a few months and I've gotten more than one request for LED hoops. But as of yet I haven't really found any tutorials on this. I've found a few sites that have instructions, but I'd really love to find a video. Also, where in the heck do you even find materials for this? Where do you get individual LED's? How do you balance the hoop with a battery only on one side? I've been to every hardware store in a 50 mile radius and none of them seem to carry HDPE in it's translucent form, where do you get it? I am honestly so confused as to where to even start on this, my list of questions is endless it seems.

thanks aaron! ive never understood about the resistor watts, so thanks for clearing this up!

I just use the LED calculator do all the math for me. Just plug in the supply voltage , voltage drop across resistor, LED current rating, and number of resistors.

so for each color led i should type in the numbers and diff resistors? thanks for the links, just bookmarked em, getting tubing next week and led's should be leaving hong kong soon, lol
ledkid recommends a maximum forward current of 40ma and max forward voltage of 4.5v  for each led. I just used the same values for each led at 40 ma.
I'm having around the same problem, I need to find the right battery and charger, preferably just one 3.7 v battery.

all my leds have 1 rechargeable battery. hmmmmm.....maybe its time to put together some info/tutorial on how i made my led hoops.

if/when i do ill post here and/or if anyone is interested you can keep a look out on my site--www.HOOP-TRIX.com.

fun--a new hoop project!

Please do ! (:

ill def keep a lookout. You say you use the one rechargeable battery. is it the 3.7 V Lithium? does it have to come out of hoop and put it onto charging dock or can you just plug in a cord and the hoop stays together?

working on it now!

the battery that i use is this one:

Protected UltraFire 14500 AA sized 3.6V Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery 900 mAh CR14500 Lithium Ion

and yes, you do need to open the hoop to change it out and put it into a charger. its nice, cuz then you can take extra charged batteries with you and you dont have to worry about your hoop dying and having to be recharged.

ill have all this on the page im putting together.

you're awesome Beth, and all the wonderful hoopers who helped you along as well! Kuddos to all! :)

awwww thanks rachel!
