Getting sponsored by businesses is a great idea...and go to every single one! also try a pop can drive. send out a flyer a week or so in advance. another idea is maybe set out a hat and hoop on the streets haha

i would totally travel to maine i live in northern new york so its only about a 4 1/2 hour drive not too bad :)

Sorry no tips on the fundraising portion, but I love Maine! Mmmmmm lobster =) I think Portland or Bangor would be your best bet because of the airports. Coming from Mass, I'd prefer something in the Portland area, and I think that would give you the best turn out as well - New Englanders like myself could easily drive, and others could fly. Plus Portland is just awesome =)

MMm I think it's too cold for this now but a couple of my friends did a carwashing thing to raise money that was pretty successful... Offer some kind of service to people. Now that it's cold try shoveling driveways or walking dogs. I know it sucks but it's for the sake of your hoop retreat. All it takes is a lil of your time, so it's 100% profit.

As Dawn's partner in crime, can I add a secondary question for everyone?? When you think in terms of a hoop fest/retreat do you think camping or do you think cabins or hotels?? How does that influence your decision to come or not?

I would definitely prefer camping and/or cabins to a hotel. If you go the camping route, I think it's best to have cabins available for those travelling by plane who can't transport a tent & all the gear they would need to camp. I don't like the idea of a hotel - when I picture a retreat I picture fields filled with hoopers & campfires at night =)
