Okay... First and formost I would like to pre apoligize if this post personally offends anyone. This is not my intent.
So recently on facebook, my grandma posted something about her friends daughter, She had been in A horrible acedent and her right arm was parilized, That little girl tryed everyday to move her arm, SHE worked at it every day, It was HER motivation, and Determination that finally made that arm move...
In the post however, my gradma, says this "God has blessed this child, God saved her arm, and now she can move it, praise the lord for helping this young soul"
The reason what she said bugs me... other then the fact that I am not religous, is that even if there is A greater power, A god, It was not him/ her the "god" that made her arm move, it was all the girl, She worked soooo hard every day She toned her mucles, SHE had the determination, and the drive to save her own arm, and NOBODY, Should be getting credit but that brave young girl.
And this goes for lots of things, My grandma has also said to me "Oh god has blessed you with your weightloss" Uh... no.. I lost weight, by myself, No help from anyone, I've lost 55+ pounds and thats all because of My drive and determination, I didn't pray and ask god for help, I DID THIS
Its all about putting credit where the credit is Due, People Human beings, are capable of so much, we can heal ourselfs, we can also destroy ourselfs, we can hurt others, Its called free will.
And if there is A "god" out there do you think he really has time for the billions of people on this earth? let alone all of the other planets and galexys out there?
Anyways, This disscuion is about where you think the credit is due?
and when something goes wrong do we blame "god" no, we blame other humans, and say Oh "god" is just testing me..
I think people who get into horrible accedents, and Heal, and grow and learn from what has happened is all about who that person is, and how determened they are to get better, I can understand how thinking god is helping you and that gives you determination to do what you need to do.. but come on... if you just jumped A huge opstical in your life, and you don't give yourself credit, your cutting yourself short, Don't give credit to "god" IT WAS YOU WHO DID IT!!! YOU HELPED YOURSELF!!!! THANK YOURSELF, AND LOVE YOURSELF!!!! YOU ARE VERY POWERFULL, if you belive in yourself, You can do anything, and accomplish anything. YOU are A powerfull being, YOU ARE AMAZING!! You just have to choose to be amazing, and know in your heart that YOU helped youself, and that you are strong, and I think honestly that, that would be A much better feeling then Beliving that some magical being had healed you... YOU ARE AMAZING. You did it. Congradulations.

old people are just different in thinking....they come from a time where religion was predominant and you were taught not to question it ( i don't agree with this approach, but it exists like it or not) whereas younger generations rely on a more scientific worldview...while i agree that our willpower is ultimately what shapes us,there's probably nothing you can say or do that is gonna change her perspective. perspective is subjective and we are each entitled to our own. i wouldn't get too bent out of shape about it. as the dude would say : "that's just your opinion, man."

give yourself a pat on the back though for all you have done for yourself. you deserve it.

Very touching story! In my personal thoughts, I don't believe 'God' exists outside of us. We are all god, it exists in our souls. <3

I think you are right, I mean, I agree with you that people can trust in/have faith in God which helps them get through trials and gives them more determination and purpose for getting better or overcoming obstacles, but that should not take away from our own abilities as well. This kind of thinking is a feel good way of looking at the world, but it sucks, because it opens itself to questions such as, "well if God healed her, why didn't he heal me?" And if God gets the credit for all the good things, then God also gets the credit for the bad things, which leads people to being angry and frustrated because God "let this awful thing" occur such as starving children or abused women or whatever else you want to name off. If we deflect responsibility when good things happen, then we also deflect it when bad things are happening, and we don't take action to fix them because we wait on God to do that when it's our job to care for others and help them, heal them, bless them. And I'm not trying to say God is completely detached from the world and is not involved in healing or giftings, just that I think he moves and works in ways that are much greater than our understanding, and it kinda cheapens him when we only relate to him in ways of good or bad actions. It's such a mentality of our times though.

I totally agree with this. It is great when a person can use their religion for comfort and inspiration but when it is used as a crutch it can be a problem. "We don't need to act on climate change, only God can do that..." and so on.

Dutruex I love how said it. Love yourself. Definitely give yourself credit first.

In an interview with Justin Bieber prior to his being signed and before he rose to national fame, the interviewer said, "This is proof that God can do amazing things." But it wasn't God. JB was the one putting himself on YouTube. That crap annoys me too. If God did all these great things then why is there war, murder, death, sex slavery, poverty, and desolation in other areas of the world? People who believe in God are traditional and they also believe they deserve what they have and that others are unfortunate due to sins in a previous life or something. I don't know. I always credit myself when I accomplish things. I've been very successful and never once thanked God. LoL.

I dont want to offend anyone either....but overly religious people are EXACTLY what is wrong with the world. Being crazy religious and shoving your God down other peoples throats is just as bad as being money greedy or blood hungry. A lot of hate comes straight from those who are all about god and doing "whats right"

I agree fully, even if there is some greater power......people need credit for their hard work. You're definitely right about yours and her determination for her arm and your weight. Hard work from yourselves brought those results

I understand how you're saying it was the little girls willpower and not, "god" who did it;

i dont know, as i've become more aware and more spiritual, i kind of have this feeling that WE are god.

that our combined energy and love for one another is god.

I dislike religion. I dislike it a lot. My brother is always complaining about the athletes in interviews 'I'd like to thank god'...god wasn't going to the gym three times a day and training four. God wasn't eating nothing but chicken, broclie, boiled eggs, and raw almonds for a month. You did this. You won because you trained hard.
I also have a problem when religious types comment on a death 'god had a plan
for him' is what they would say when my dad died, and when my best friend died.
So gods plan included robbing two children of their father? A wife of her husband, all before they had found a way to patch up the dysfunction, gods plan was for the mother and daughter to struggle to make enough money to keep the house? For the son to be consumed by the fact that he was still so angry at his father for his wrong doings and wasn't ready to not be.
And Adam, 22, 'gods got a plan' he was the best person I have ever known and he was going to better ther world. I feel bad for every person that never got to meet him. There will never be another Adam, and the world suffers for it.
But yeah I guess I went on a tangent.

All I can say is The Secret... If you haven't heard of it or know what it is you should look it up. It's how I feel about it. And you should definitely give yourself all the credit!
