I've not heard of this period...where did you see information about it?

Oh wow, I think I change my mind.  I looked at their website and had a read through and they are VERY 'branded' with their corporate identity.  Insofar as you're certified and paying to use their name, teach their style and have to renew every 12 months to continue to use their materials or teachings or style. 

 

It's a bit too much branding for me.  I like taking teachings from many places, putting my own spin on things and then being able to relate what works for me when I teach or share with others. 

 

Unless the HOopAPPEAL people really have some sweet moves/styles I don't know about, PLEASE EDUCATE ME, because otherwise I could be thinking of this all wrong.

 

The teacher training is on their website, it does show the pricing (500+ dollars if you want to take the first level, the ruby level and the kids (jade) level) and again, you only get permissions to teach in their style/materials for 12 mos and I didn't see what renewals costs were.  It did say the dates were for the end of april.  23/24/25 WHICH is EASTER weekend. It didn't say a location in Edmonton though...  I didn't check for Calgary.

 

I find it odd that you haven't gotten a reply...did you call their toll free number?

 

I'm very interested in hearing what others have to say.

 

SAFIRE has teacher training on hoopcity and it's distance learning...just throwing out a suggestion and some hoop love for Safire!  Perhaps she would even know more about HoopAppeal and the people organizing the touring training?

I signed up for it too but haven't heard anything either - this happened last November too - the owner fell off a ladder and didn't come out

Kerri, did you get a refund on your registration last Nov. when they cancelled?

thanks all for your information.  i really wanted it to work out just because i really wanted it to be a local, in person, teacher training but it sounds like they are not organized or don't care.  let me know if it actually happens and how it is.

I am from Regina and sadly there is very little Hoop Culture in this province.  I would love to take some teacher training as well but that just isn't an option around here.  Maybe if there are enough of us interested we could lure someone to Alberta for a weekend course.  I would gladly drive out there to participate.

There are probably better options for online/distance learning. Check out the SaFire teacher training, there is a manual, dvd, and projects to help you become a better teacher.  I haven't done it yet,but it looks pretty fantastic.

I agree, SaFire's online teacher training does look pretty awesome.   

 

THere is something to be said about learning with a real person though (or a combo of both would be the best thing ever!)

After you posted, I tried to call them a couple of times at a couple of different numbers...never actually got a 'live person'.  I didn't leave a message.

 

I did order their dvd because I was curious about the content, and how long they'd take to ship it.  It's not arrived.  THere are no timelines specifying how long the shipping period is so I'll wait another couple of weeks and then call.

 

Weird hey?  You might be right that they aren't very organized, or maybe their online presence makes them 'appear' larger than they are.  I'm sure they have day jobs too...or maybe everything is on auto-pilot while they tour around?

 

Did you ever get a reply?

i finally received a phone call last week but i never called them back.  6 weeks after the inital contact is terrrible customer service so i was not acout to be a customer.  i am still curious if the cource will run and where it is and definately the content. 

 

Let me know what the dvd is about.

Hmm, yes, if you were to take the training and you had questions...a six week turnaround doesn't help you much!

 

I'm in Edmonton and I've not seen or heard anything about the location or training.  Their website doesn't even say 'where'.

The course has been cancelled due to low registrations and they will try again for the fall. (I received an email).

 

The dvd came yesterday afternoon.  It is pretty basic and repetitive.  Good for an absolute beginner who doesn't know what to do with the hoop, and needs to get started.
