I'm making a new business plan, for gov't stuff, and I'm getting wrapped up in the structure of the document... I have 3 different focuses (teaching, performing, selling) which means a dozen products and services, and a handful of target markets. Also...I can't stop giggling when I read the example plans and the standard concepts of competition!

Anyone have advice on how to structure the multi-faceted biz plan that we hoopers need?

I'm not sure i see what's different than a regular biz plan -- you still need to outline the mission statement, revenue sources, marketing plan, operations, web site, SEO, sales -- and all that stuff regular companies use -- including bus dev and coopetition. wanna send me a link of what you're looking at and trying to model from? :) msg me off list if that's easier. . .

Yes, many parts will be the same.

When I look at biz plan examples, they're all for businesses with one focus, one target market. The people who come to my classes are completely different than those who hire me as a fire spinner.

I'm having a hard time seeing how the business plan will be structured for these separate parts of the business..do I make 3 plans? Do I separate the sections? Or force everything under one umbrella?

Product and Service : plastic circles

Target market : people who like plastic circles

:)

oh. i see. i view it as a three prong approach all under one umbrella, personally. YMMV. for me prong 1 is: education and i then see sales as a part of that -- materials for those who want to be educated. as a performer, i often do hoop parties which combine education and performance. but i've choosen a primary emphasis as education and lead with that.

i haven't a clue what you're doing and i don't think i can give any sort of solid advice in this forum given i don't know what you're creating a plan for and what your vision of how you do your business is.

I'm in a small class helping me build a business plan.  I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;)  Really I'd just post mine for you to see but I won't be done till the end of aug.  I would appreciate any sample hula hoop business plans anyone would like to share with me.  if you want to send privately please email to saltyhoops@gmail. I promise to not plagiarize!

The main area I'm having trouble is market research.... how can I find how other hula hoop business have done?  I'm a local salt lake city business and I plan to stay local but national data would really help me build a plan.  I don't even know where to start looking...

hehe!

Next time I dive into my biz plan I will give you a shout!

I ended up talking about everything, with focus on teaching (cause that's where majority of income is from). I talked about performance for promotion, for community building, and for profit.

Modeling after a yoga studio is probably your best bet- cause they have classes, private lessons, sell merch, and sometimes do outreach/performance

Market research is the easy part after you figure out which market you want to serve. Fitness crowd? Kids? Holistic hippies?  If people aren't spending money on my classes, they're going to yoga, boot camp, belly dance. Or maybe meditation retreats, holistic practicioners, chiropractors, therapists. Those are the competition
