I've been taking silks classes and absolutely adore them but I'm a young, broke student and don't have enough money to pay for open gym on top of classes a few times a week. I really need to rig some silks in my home but have no idea how. I've figured out how to knot the silks around a rescue-8 but as far as getting them onto the ceiling--I am clueless. Does anyone know of any videos, tutorials or articles that explain the steps to get your silks hanging from the ceiling?!

i was wondering the same. i'm moving out with my boyfriend and would like to put them in someday!

I use a web from a rock climbing store with a swivel and a carabiner on either side of the swivel. One carabiner goes around the two ends of the webbing loop (that wraps beam) to swivel, the other from rescue 8 to swivel. However, I am blessed with 6" rough square cut beams and a high ceiling. It's really not something to take lightly. You need access to a strong exposed beam or structural truss. I have not seen anyone remove drywall and find a stud to drill through, or know how safe that would be, I cringe at the thought. It really depends on what you have to work with. If you have some type of exposed beam I'd be happy to photo my rig if needed. The web is roughly $6-$10, carabiners approx. $12 each, And the swivel will run you between $65-$100.
You may be able to contact a contractor in your area to determine if whatever your thinking will be able to handle the load.

Even an 18ft ceiling is LOW - by the time you connect carabiners and super 8's - you will lose another foot at the very least. The real problem is that you won't be able to do any drops because you will hit the floor. Even if you don't land on your head your arms (hands) and legs (feet) are extended pretty far out and will hit first. I have had more then one friend hit the ground with their hand resulting in broken bones.
Try soliciting a local gymnastics gym or park district facility for use of their space. Throw a heavy chain around one of their beams and hook your silks to that.
