All my life I've been extremely interested in fashion, but have always been a casual or quirky dresser.  For as long as I can remember, my mother has nagged me to dress more like a grown up.  As much as I hate to admit it,she is partly right.   I've spent the last few months trying to refresh my wardrobe, and have discovered a whole world of fashionable fatties on the interwebs.  These ladies are out there strutting their strutting their style and proving that big girls don't have to be frumpy or boring.

For your browsing pleasure I bring you some of my favorite fatshion blogs:

Tell me everybody, where do you go to find clothing inspiration, where do you like to shop etc?  Post your favorite outfits (on your body or online), your favorite blogs, etc!

i mostly just make my own costumes. it's easier that way. plus, since i fire dance more than not and i want all my outfits to be fire safe, it's even harder to find things since there really isn't a good fire dancing line out there let alone a choice of lines. I just started a blog (but it's not ready for prime time yet) for my costumes and makeup. i do a lot of upcycles (hence the name of the site: upcycleheaven.com) and get my basics from Old Navy. Their clothes run large and their yoga pants are fire safe!
Awesome! I am thinking more for clothes in everyday life rather than just hooping! But upcycling is wicked, I am a huge fan of diying and modifying thrift finds.
As far as hooping clothes go, I'm moving out of tees and workout pants and into tanks, shorts, skorts (my faves!) and capris. Not much costuming yet, although I have something basic in mind for the June video challenge and am planning to do a little post-work, pre-church shopping at Avenue and Belk this evening...

As for non-hooping clothes, I'm finally out of the plus sizes (except for the smallest sizes at Avenue occasionally), so I've been heating up the plastic revamping my wardrobe. ;) I shop Wal Mart, department stores, online - wherever I can find something well made and flattering. One of my most recent purchases was a dress at Maurice's, a store I'd never visited before. They have a great range of sizes and the clothes are fashionable - not a frumpy thing in sight. I went to the local store, but here's the web link: http://www.maurices.com/home/index.jsp

The dress I bought (Not available on the website, or I'd show you) is a sweet little turquoise and black number with a polka-dotted waist. I wore it to a cousin's wedding with black suede-and-patent peeptoes, silver jewelry and a matte silver Etienne Aigner clutch I scored on sale. I'll have to get dolled up and post a pic...
I've never heard of Maurices... so glad you posted this. LOTS of REALLY CUTE CLOTHES! *.* woooooo pretties.
You're welcome, my friend! :)

Heck, just the fact that I own dresses is a tribute to the hoop. Before I started hooping, I didn't own a single dress; now I have four! :D
Woohoo! And you're earning your hooper body to rock those dresses!
I like old navy too. I wish they would put their plus size in the store cuz I think I would buy more if I could go there and try it on. I have been at the thrift stores as well. You can find some great stuff there. Since my costuming is going to be more towards belly dance I am always on the lookout for cheap scarves that I can add jingly coins or just drape a few of them around my hips for accent. I also love long tiered skirts and I want to do a video hooping in one that I have. I would love to wear a short frilly skirt,,but my legs are not ready for prime time yet! LOL! but soon....soon,,,:)

Hey Girls- I'll be attending a hoop retreat this summer and need some advice- Does anyone know if there are any plus size leggings out there that are decent. i got some at DOTS but they are of poor quality. Also any advice on shoes for hooping outside in the summer???

I don't want to look like every other hooper out there and know that some of the clothes that most hoopers wear look ridiculous on me  . I like the flowy pants and tanks  but donj't want to blend in necessarily.

Have you ever shopped at Avenue or Lane Bryant?  They both have websites as well as regular stores, and they're geared specifically for us curvy girls.

thanks- Bozeman Mt doesn't have these stores- looks like Maurices for me  which is cool I like a lot of  their tops might have to get a custom outfit from Red Lunar

I'm talking to her now about getting a pair of flair capris like the ones sharnarose has in her newest video.  I like my Desert Dancer pants, but they're full length and just too hot now that the weather is getting warmer.

We have a Maurice's here, which I hadn't even heard of until a little over a year ago when I needed a dress for a wedding I was attending.  It's a cool store and I love the dress I got, but last time I went in (a couple of months ago) I didn't find anything I thought would be good for hooping.  Maybe there's some new stuff now...

I'm revisiting this thread with a question: I need an outfit for my niece's wedding in October.  She's doing a Halloween theme for the wedding and reception, and the event is costume optional.  Of course I want to costume, and I'm thinking something pixie/fairy/elfish, but I want it to be both hoopable and modest enough for a family wedding; I figure why buy a Halloween costume I'll wear only once when I could buy new hoop clothes instead?

So, here's the question: Any suggestions for Etsy or website links where I can find the kind of clothing I'm seeking, or patterns to make my own?  I have a regular sewing machine (no serger capabilities), and I can make something if need be, but it has to be hoopable (preferably cotton/spandex or something similar) and not too intricate.
