Hello, hello.

I didn't create this group, but I thought I'd create a space where we could all introduce ourselves. Tell us a little about yourself, your experience in the hoop, where you're from, your goals, family, ect.

Hello, folks!

I'm the mother of two toddlers, a full time college student, and a multi-tasker by nature. Catch me any day and I'll be doing three things at once. Hoop dance, macrame, geeking the 'net, reading, and household responsibilities are all common tasks. Oh, and work. As of yesterday I have a summer job, but I'm not sure what it is yet. Weird, huh? Also in June I'm helping organize a midwest hooper's meet-up at Cooper's Landing in Columbia, MO. If you're near by come visit! The only cost is camping $10 per tent and several beautiful Hoop-city hoopers will be there.

As far as this curvy buisness goes, I'm really struggling with body image right now. My children were born less than 2 year apart and I only stopped breastfeeding a couple months ago. Its strange having my body back...and my body feels strange around me. Most of the time I don't think of my body differently than I did three years ago, but it certainly looks different.
I should be slapped, neglecting my own group like this!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for joining the group! I've been struggling with whether or not I should be inviting people to this group, but I am terrified of insulting people.

I started hooping years ago at raves, but got pissed off using a kiddie hoop and gave up. Suddenly everyone I know hoops, and I am so glad to pick up the hoop again.

I live with my boyfriend, and our four kitten-beasts of fuzzy doom. Last year the two of made resolutions to learn as many "useless skills" as possible. At our house, if we're not geeking, gaming or watching horror movies you can usually find one of us hooping, contact juggling, playing with poi, or trying not to fall off a unicycle. To be honest, I'm new to all of these skills, but learning with Nigel is a blast. I'm also trying to learn the ukulele, but picking up my first instrument at the age of 30 is harder than i thought.
Hi Gina - That is great that you are trying new skills and seeing what you like. My husband and I have been doing the same now that we are empty nesters. We tried swing dancing, didn't really stick, but at least now we can dance together at a wedding. I think I am more of a freeform dancer, that is one of the many reasons I love hooping. It can be my own expression. We also play ukulele, we have a collection of about 12 ukes. They are on wall hangers and my husband picks it up almost daily and plays a little. It doesn't come as easy to me, I think I "play along" more than play. But it has been fun also, glad to hear you play. We joined a Uke Jam group in our area, I found that helpful to play in a group setting to learn the chords and melodies of the songs. Look up Ukuele Cabaret sometime on the net. This is a group in NYC that gets up and performs for each other, very entertaining and fun.
Hi everyone!!!..... Ok so not sure exactly what you would call Curvy and if there is a size limit lol. I figure I can be in this group as I have trouble finding costumes and such to fit because of my size. I am not huge by any means I only wear a size 10 in jeans now but I have a nice size pooch from being a mom and I have boobs to big to fit my clothes. I am that horrible shape where I have to buy a shirt for my boobs and take it in for the rest of my body.

I live in IN with Rodger, my boyfriend, and Michelle his wife. We are a poly V (meaning me and Michelle do not have an intimate/physical relationship) Between the 3 of us we have 5 children. Rodger 8, Carl almost 7, Holly 3, Sebastian 3, and Cecilia 2. Sebastian is mine by birth the other 4 are Rodger and Michelle's. We live on 175 acre nature sanctuary where we are resident care takers. I would love to find more hooper friends who have the sam struggles as I do so we can support each other and really truly understand. Can't wait to get to know you all.
Willow :)
Hello,

I'm the Michelle part of Willow. I'm defiantly on the curvy side of the scale, darn kids. lol I've not been hooping long so I don't have much experience, but so far I'm having a good time. :)
Hi, I'm Helen. I live in SC with my 9 cats. I love hooping, surfing the net, reading, dancing. I also crochet and dabble at the piano. I am a cancer survivor. Celebrated my fourth end-of-cancerversary this summer. I am hoping to start teaching a free hooping class to cancer survivors by next summer. I've had weight struggles since I was a teen, but during cancer drugs got me up to 240. I am fifty down with 45 to go. Hooping has been a godsend since I am not fond of the gym and can no longer run (bum knee). My weight had plateau'd before I started, now I have lost another ten.

Nice to meet you all.
Hi Helen.
I'm new to hooping and have about 65 pounds to go. I take care of my mom during the day (stage 4 lung cancer with mets to the brain) and wait tables at night so I don't have as much time as I like to hoop. I would love to meet other people to learn from and to inspire. I would love to get chest hooping but can't seem to get the rythym.
Hello! I'm Jayde, and I was rather surprised and happy to find a group like this! People often tell me I'm "small" but...then again, I'm not a twig! I'm not overweight, but I definitely have the hips and boobs, so I'd say I'm rather curvy!
I've been hooping all of almost 2 weeks now, and still loving it! I got myself a rather large hoop, not because I wanted one, but because it was the only thing available (it's 1 inch diameter, and 42 inches big), but hopefully I'll get into making my own, or at least getting another one!
As for family, I currently live with my husband and two roommates, but hopefully one day that will change to just the two of us. I live on Vancouver island, in BC, Canada. I'll be going to school soon! I'm very excited for that. My other hobbies include drawing, writing, pole dancing, sewing, photography, macrame...well, the list goes on!
Hope to make more friends as I go!
Hey Curvy Gals - I just joined your group. My name is Lisa, I am a fairly newbie hooper living in So Orange County. I began in April when I turned 50. I started hooping because my husband and I went to Burning Man for the 1st time last year, and it opened my eyes and introduced me to this wonderful community. My hoop mentor/instuctor is Kay, she is amazing. She empowered me by inviting me to Hoop in the Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade (largest parade West of Mississippi). It was quite an experience and accomplishment. I try to spread the hoop joy as much as I can. I've started a hoop jam once a week with gals in my office, we get together at a park and hoop to music at lunch. Also, recently went to the County Children's Home on volunteer night and taught the kids to hoop. This was my friend, Stacy's project, she raised the funds and we had 20 hoops to donate to the home. Very joyful!

When I first started hooping, I noticed my body changing and my posture getting straighter. Also, planning for the parade, I started walking 2 miles a day to condition myself to be able to make it. Most of my fellow hoopers were 20-30 yrs younger than me!! Since the parade, I have slacked a bit. I am going back to Burning Man, we leave this Friday. I can't wait, I know I will catch Hoop Fever all over again!!

Much Love and Hoopiness to you All!
What a cool idea for a group. :) I'm Jessica, I'm 5'6" and 183 (down from 202 at my heaviest!). I like to be aware of my weight and I will proudly tell it to anyone who asks, because it's part of me (even though I'm trying to get it under control. I love me some eating.)

I absolutely love what Gina said about taking the time out to learn "useless" skills. It's funny, because I've found that no skill is really "useless". Something can be learned from every skill, and it can be applied to everything else.

I've just started taking belly dance classes, super beginner ones, but I'm enjoying it so far. I would also LOVE to learn contact staff. But the hoop is my primary love right now. I think it's really helped me to get in touch with my body and really learn to love it for what it is, curves and all. Sure, I'd like to be more toned, but the way my body's designed, I don't think it will ever not be curvy. So rather than wishing I had those narrow hips or a flat chest and could wear whatever I want without it looking too tight or clingly, I'm embracing my hips and my chest and even my belly and butt!
I live on and run a horse farm in eastern central Oklahoma. 3 of the 4 horses are rescues, and 3/4s of the herd are also Spanish Mustangs (the non-mustang is my Quarter Horse rescue, Major). When mustangs arrive at the local horse rescue (which doesn't happen often; arrivals at the rescue are usually from other breeds), I'm who they ask for, as I'm one of the very few people in the area who genuinely like them (and will manage to find homes for them). I also go to school part-time and work full-time in health care. Needless to say, I don't have a lot of time to exercise, and now that I'm 35 and rebuilding my body after a car wreck, it's starting to show. I used to perform in tribal bellydance and run ultramarathons, but that's been on hold for a while. Besides, I like hooping (which I've been doing for not quite a year now) because I don't have to struggle to learn other people's choreography. :)

Cheers!

Hi all...

My name's Fiona and I am *brand new* to the hooping game...as in, I don't actually have a hoop yet. ;o) A friend of mine started hooping back in January, and after seeing how much she has toned up in 7-8 months, I decided to give it a whirl, too (pun intended?). LOL. She makes hoops and is bringing over a few for me to try on Thursday - yay!

As for me, I am married, mom of 2 (8 and 2), horseback (dressage) rider and on-again-off-again yoga practicioner. I read like crazy and am addicted to Facebook. I work part time and take care of our 2yo part time. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of my fellow "curvy hoopers"! :o)

Oh, and I forgot to add, I live in MN. Today was the first really autumn-feeling day in a while...I'm super grateful that I have room too hoop inside! ;o)
