Hello all. Here I go with another idea...

I'm hoping there would be a group of us hoopers who'd like to participate in a few community positive hooping activities... like a few annual charity hoop walks.

let me know more details. I am interested but may not be able to commit until nearer the time.
Yes, I'm interested, but would need to know some dates & times due to the heavy kid activity schedule/ chauffeuring duties.

Hi there. No spaces left for Ottawa Race Weekend. It would have been pretty crowded anyways.

I'd really like us to set up a core group of charity hoopers to support a few local charity walk/runs. A possibility would be the May 14th Walk for Lupus.

Do any of you have special causes you'd like to support all the while sharing you passion for hooping?

Not having much luck so far. Anyone else have a charity they'd like to support?

There was an interesting article yesterday on hooping.org on a charity hoop brigade. I've pasted it below. It would be nice to set up something similar in Ottawa.

Stacey Guard and RVA Hoop Lovers have turned their passion for hooping into a community outreach program, creating a nonprofit organization called RVA Hoop House which provides volunteer hula hoopers for community events. In partnership with the city of Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation, hoopers will be providing demonstrations and “play time” at numerous events throughout the year. RVA Hoop House has also been working with Faces of Hope to help prevent childhood obesity. “We’re bringing something really healthy to a lot of families,” Guard told the Times Dispatch. Pictured hooping it up at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Duck Race, the crew will be visiting parks and community centers across Richmond, Virginia, as part of the cooperative program called RVA Hoop Jam in the Park.
this is interesting Anne, and a good article/idea. I'd like to support the Terry Fox run with bringing our hoops to the rallying point. But the Lupus walk is when we're at HoopCon. Let's see what evolves, I'm willing this summer (when my schedule is lighter). When's the Relay for Life?

Hello. Citizen Advocacy are wondering if a group of us would like to come and hoop at their fundraising picnic on August 27th at Stanley Park in New Edinburgh. More details to come.

Anyone interested at this point?

I might be, unless I'm on vacation then.  I'd certainly like to hear more about it!
Did a first Charity hoop thing... it was a semi-spontaneous event on Saturday in a Gatineau grocery store to raise money for guide dogs. This was a context where twin arm hooping came in handing compared to waist/body hooping.
whoop hoop woof! Good going Anne, where's the pics?
No pics. I was helping my blind friend!!
I've thought about hooping an event since I started hooping, but haven't done it yet.  I thought a good intro event might be The Underwear Affair.  http://ot11.uncoverthecure.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ot11_homepage  It's in aid of below the belt cancers, and they have a contest for folks dressed up in undergarments.  Seems to me that they would be mellow enough to be okay with hoops in their midst, which I wouldn't think would be as simple with something like the 40.000 people participating the the race weekend.  It's a 5 km fun walk.  The trick is that you have to raise $300 to participate, and pay a $25 entry fee.  It would be nice to participate in a number of events, but if it is the same core group asking people they know for sponsorship, that might wear a little thin after a while.  We need a fundraising team! :)

Speaking of the race weekend, and somewhat non hoop related, but I will be nordic walking the 10 km on May 28. I haven't figured a way to hoop and nordic walk at the same time, I suspect it is impossible. :)

Donations to my team Armed with Poles, go to the Ottawa Hospital.  If you'd like to donate to a good cause, and I'd really appreciate your support to meet my fundraising goal, check out my page (also see a photo of me trying to hoop with nordic poles attached to my wrists):
