Hello all. Here I go with another idea...

I'm hoping there would be a group of us hoopers who'd like to participate in a few community positive hooping activities... like a few annual charity hoop walks.

Haven't heard back yet from Citizen Advocacy - they are busy with another project at present. Anyone else have a charity they'd like us to support with our hoopiness?

I received a call from Citizen Advocacy - an amazing local social service agency - asking for a group of hoopers to come and liven their annual fundraising picnic on August 22nd. I'm waiting to obtain more details.

Who'd like to share their passion for hooping and help an agency which does amazing work?

Hey EO hoopers, just to let you know our hooppal in Orleans, Annette L., walked and hooped a 5K Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes! She's so nonchalant about it, but I think it's pretty amazing! I hope it inspires others to hoopwalk for charities too!

I'm so glad to find this discussion! I am planning to hoop walk the Susan G Komen 3-Day for the Cure (60 mile walk to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research and treatment) in Arizona in November. I have been training and am up to being able to waist hoop for 10-12 miles at a time right now, so I should be set for 20 miles/day in 4 more months.

I've never hooped a charity walk before so I would really love some insights from people who have.

My biggest question is how did you deal with having enough space without bumping into people?

Did you just try to stay near the back?

Did you hand hoop over your head in really congested areas?

How much did you actually waist hoop vs off body hoop?

Any tips for increasing my speed? Right now, I average about 3 mph but when I try to walk faster, I get out of sync with the hoop.

Thanks for any advice you can give (other than just lots and lots of practice!)

Hi Lacey,

Those are great questions. Has anyone hoop walked yet? I don't know of anyone who has. I bet you'll find articles on the topic on this site or hooping.org.

Here's more info on Citizen Advocacy's request for a group of hoopers to liven their annual fundraiser picnic. Who's interested? Please let me know.

I've copied part of the email sent by their fundraiser:

"Hopefully a group will be available to come to our event. I am attaching an invite which has all the details – location and time.

I would love it if a group could come and do a short show and maybe also assist a few of our protégés if they would like to try to hoola hoop. Obviously this would be entirely up to you and your group."

Hello community-focused hoopers. This is my last try for Citizen Advocacy's annual picnic on Saturday, August 27th. We've been asked to have a group of hoopers liven up the event from 1-1:30 p.m. at Stanley Park in New Edinburg.

Not having done this before, I'm not sure if we should organize a routine of some sort, or just go and engage the picnikers with our hooping and by encouraging them to hoop. Your ideas would be greatly welcomed.

Those intererested, please respond by Monday, August 22. Thank you.

I definitely want to try this. I wont be able to pull something together routine wise so I would suggest; music, do your own thang and try to engage the crowd in a little bit of hoopiness. I can commit to about 2 hours.

Hi Anne, I haven't been on Hoopcity all summer so just saw your posting last week.  I was home from work sick last week so I was too weak to participate on Saturday.  I hope everything went well.  Teresa
This Saturday, on Sept 10th, (9/10/11 for you number freaks) I'd love to gather with hoopers at Parliament Hill for an impromptu community hoopjam for peace. Free parking at World Exchange Plaza, and I'll bring my tunes and extra hoops. Be there for 3 pm! Maybe bellinis at Milestones afterwards.....?
