Hi group,

Thought I'd start a discussion on (you guessed it!) what move you are working on these days. I've tended to do that since I started hooping: focusing on one or a few moves that I particularly want to master (but still hoopdancing). I can work on a move over and over... a bit like when I try to learn a new musical piece.

So, these days, I'm trying to master the shoulder roll. It's thrilling! Got it a few times and giggled like a little girl.

What are you working on these days?

Hmm, I find I'm working on a bunch of things at once right now. With twins this week I've been practicing the 3beat weave...I'm getting so close! I'm also working on my iso's with twins...alternating the forward pop from one to the next. My wrists are getting a serious workout! :)

During my 30minutes lately I've been working on my 2nd current and realizing I'm not very strong with my shoulder hooping in that direction so I'm spending some time hanging out there more.

My only other intention has been to work on my dance in the hoop and to break out a bit more...not be confined to the same patterns and explore the hoop like Beka had talked about with us. This has led me to explore hooping with my legs, popping in and out of the hoop in all sorts of ways. It's been fun!

I am still trying to master hooping on my knees.

Learning something new has to be one of the best parts of the "hooping" thing for me cause the sense of accomplishment that I get has never been so satisfying as getting a new hoop move and what I have realized is all I have to do is practice, practice, and practice.

I am working on off body moves with twin hoops.  The following videos have been inspirational and educational.

I am taking Zumba classes to learn basic dance moves that I may be able to apply to hooping.

mmm...nothing specific at this point.  Not having been able to hoop much for quite some time, I'm just gently revisiting core movement with my big hoop. I'm keeping it to 30 minutes every other day or so in order not to hurt the infamous rib.   It is so hard to stop hooping once I start! Aaarrrhh.

I am in love with this trick, one of hooping.org's honourable mentions; so one of my goals is to break it down, start with the parts I know, learn the others, and put it all together at some point.   Space is an issue also, must find a way to knee hoop in my apartment!

This is such an interesting thread! It's interesting how most of you have really gotten bitten by the twins bug. Me, not so much... yet. Maybe it's because I don't have the space for it (among other things). I also love my big fat 'ol hoop.  :-)

Andrée: What kind of hooping are you trying to do on your knees? Today, in Brigitte's class, we did shoulder hooping on the knees. That was not easy.

Teresa: Can you do the 5 beat weave like in the YouTube video you linked?!

Bryana: That is an amazing move! Can't wait to see the final product.

It's cool that we all like the thrill of mastering a new move.

Okay, Anne...I can't seem to picture shoulder hooping on my knees since I haven't got the hoop to actually stay on my knees yet. I find it amazing that there is so many things to learn. How will I ever do it?!

I want to eventually try the twins but I am with you Anne, I still need to work more with my big hoop before I jump into the next thing.

I also am taking belly dancing at the YMCA since it is included in my membership and it seems to be helping me with my dancing in the hoop. So cool.

Looking forward to the next hoop jam.

I can't even do the three beat weave yet!!!  I am working on it though but need to attend another of Trish's twins workshops to learn it.  I couldn't pick it up at the last workshop.  The moves in that video will take me a long time to learn.

Okay...so excited.  Something that I half-heartedly return to every time I am willing to decimate my living room, I can't remember what it's supposed to be called, but it's ducking your head out and hooping on your shoulder, and sticking your head back in--I can never remember hooping lingo.   I can duck my head out and hoop horizontally on my elbow no problem, but the shoulder has eluded me, until this evening!  It's not 100 per cent, I'm still a menace, but what fun!  It was worth the repeated apologies to my friend watching me from the chair, the t.v., the fish and the cat. lol

When I pointed out the hairy eyeball I was getting from the fish and the cat, my friend commented wryly, as my hoop went sailing toward the chair again, that they'd all gotten a little relaxed in the last month.

Andrée: I thought you meant hooping with your knees on the floor.

Have you signed up to Sophie's class? I think it's starting this week, right?

Bryana: You are hilarious. You really busted your pets' zen groove. Good for you for the hooping on 1 shoulder. That's also what I'm working on (my poor walls!).

ugh, I was loving building up my resistance w/sustained spinning - I think I've got it - and now I've got a kicker head cold. Can't spin.  I've been teaching beginner classes, I spend a lot of time nourishing the basics... but Trish's Monday class is so dynamic to kick me out of complacency. I was working on twin turns a la HoopDeeDoo... and I've been polishing some iso's, re: HoopTechnique dvd.  I'm real 'cited for JammyJam now to see all the new manouvers!

I actually got the 3 beat weave!  It might be a temporary moment of hoop synergy, and I'll forget tomorrow, but  yay!

Also, I managed to do an isolation without that dip of the hoop that drives me mad.  It was so pretty.  I am loving the mirror I put on my living room wall for hoop practice.

Latest move I am playing with-hand rolls, from this tutorial by Caroleeena:
