I forgot to mention - I'm giving an Introduction to HoopYoga at Rama Lotus Yoga Studio on Saturday, April 3rd, 11 am - 1 pm. It's an exploration of the hoop as a tool into meditative practice, incorporating yoga asana (postures), free and hoop dance, electronica and kirtan music, and Rumi poetry. Beginner hoopers welcome. A reminder that very soon (Apr. 9 & 10), Ann Humphreys will be with us in Ottawa for a HoopPath Fundamentals Workshop as well as a HoopPath Master class.

 

There is only one spot left in the Fundamentals Workshop (Sat. Apr. 9, 2-5pm), but 8 spots still remain (as of this morning) for the Master Class (Sun. Apr. 10, 2-5pm). While it helps to have had an introduction to the HoopPath approach by taking a workshop with Baxter or Ann (like Saturdays), all that is required is 50 hours flight time. If you have hooped for an hour/ week for a year, you've got it, so I would encourage anyone interested in furthering their hoop practice to take advantage of a master instructor teaching in our own city. Last year Brigitte & I travelled to Montreal to take Baxter's workshops, taking 2 days off work, staying in a hotel etc, and while it was totally worth it, this is infinitely easier!

 

Ann has provided some additional details for the workshop & master class as well as links to some recent videos; I have posted them on the Sirenhoops workshops page. Registration info is also there (registration is done through Dovercourt). Hoping to see you all there, to give Ann a warm Canadian/ Ottawa welcome!

Thanks to everyone for filling Shakti Sunfire's Hoop Dance Exploration workshop so quickly. We will be full to the brim. A second workshop was not possible as Shakti has a very small window to travel to Ottawa between attending the Wanderlust festival in Vermont, and her next destination.

 

I'm very excited that she will get to meet more of Ottawa's hoop community. We are set to go tomorrow evening, Tue. Jun. 28, 6:45, in the Assembly Hall at Dovercourt Recreation Centre. Bring a small, light hoop and a journal or something to write on.

Shakti Sunfires' workshop - wow. So inspiring. She is such a beautiful hoopdancer, and such an articulate and enriching teacher. Thank you for sharing your hoop journey with us Shakti, and thank you Trish for being so bold to bring in these amazing instructors. It's been quite a year for hoop breakthroughs with all this incredible tutelage. Personally, I was so refreshed by her focus on expression and dance - this is what lead me to hooping in the first place! then I got all wrapped up in tricks and technique - thanks for reminding me of what it's all about. Namaste  and gratitude to Shakti and Trish!

Hey Ottawa & area hoopers! Two exciting workshops coming up at Dovercourt Recreation Centre (www.dovercourt.org)!

 

This Sunday, March 11, 1-4pm, Rebecca Halls returns to Ottawa for a workshop, "Floorwork and Choreographic Techniques". $50 + tax; registration is through Dovercourt, but details are on www.sirenhoops.com.

 

Hoop City creator & hoop teacher extraordinaire Safire visits Ottawa to present her 3D Hooping Workshop on Sat. April 14, 2-6pm. $65, registration is through Safire's website (and there are links on Sirenhoops).

These workshops are great opportunities to expand your hoop skills. :-) Let's show Beka & Safire some Ottawa Hoop love! <3

fantastic workshop today with Beka - very content rich, inspiring and challenging. Lots to consider rolling around on the floor! I was blown away by the possibilities. yet again! She was very confident and knowledgeable, genuine and generous. Very impressed! thanks Trish and Beka!
