I know that this is kind of a weird discussion.  I decided to add this post in this group versus doing a discussion in the general forums.  But I have been reading a lot lately about the negative side of conventional tampon use and its a little scary.  I never thought about my uterus being the most absorbant part of my body.  I would like to change to a healthier alternative, especially since I had a cancer scare when I was 16, but theres no way I can afford to buy a box of organic tampons.  So... I have been hearing a lot about the Diva Cup.  It sounds like it could be a good experience but then again it sounds related to the whole applicatorless tampon.  Has anyone ever used one?  How was your experience?  Not to get too graphic, but was it messy to put in or take out?  I would really like to find someone who had used this in real life instead of just going with what the companys website tells.  Because who knows if those comments are from real women or just the employees.  I would appreciate any thoughts, experiences, and opinions.

The back ups I use are usually for when I get fed up with the placement of the cup, which like I said rarely happens-but when it did I got really frustrated. Sometimes I think it's easier to place at the beginning of the cycle then near the end. I don't know if this is due to muscle contraction or bloating differences? I also have cloth pads and tampons as rescue aid-but 99% of the time I just wear the cup. Sometimes I think I have slightly less cramps because there is no tampon jutting against the cervix. Also, remember that you want to give it a nice turn once inserted to make sure it's in place and sealed.
That's funny, I noticed that too. when I bought my cup they said it was good for 10yrs as well, I was wondering if I had read that wrong or if the new cups were made of a lesser quality silicone or what :$ I guess they're just bowing down to the almighty dollar :P
I have a diva cup that I have used on and off for several years. I really liked it for the first year, but I did have some bladder irritation from the cup, so I can only use it every once in a while. I also have leaking problems regardless of how I position the cup or whether the top hole are clean. I've been thinking about going up a size, but I don't know if that is the problem or not. I have not had a child so I shouldn't need to go to the next size.

However that being said; I have heard lots of good things being said about the moon cup and the diva cup.
I started using a Lunette last month (another brand of reusable cup) and I love it! I had a few leakage issues which I think were related to incorrect placement but just wearing a liner as well while you get used to the cup will help.

If anyone wants to find out more about cups, check out http://menstrualcups.org/- this is a huge community of ladies and it covers pretty much every issue related to cup use - the different cups available (there are a whole lot more than just the diva cup and they are all slightly different sizes and lengths and different ones will work best for different women) plus it also gives info on the different folds (I use the 7 fold, and find that works best for me).

But I think everyone should try a cup if they are open to the idea - it's better for you, for the environment, it's cheaper in the long run than pads or tampons (Lunette says their cup should easily last 10 years) and one of the best things for me - it holds more than a tampon so I can change it much less on heavy days.
I used both the Diva and the Moon. I really liked it while I could use it, but after a while I had a reaction to the silicone. It caused irritation and itching. I have a problem with silicone in general it seems, because I had the same problem with the NuvaRing. If I hadn't I would still be using it. You do need to keep the 4 little holes clean. If they get clogged and won't wash out, a sewing pin will unblock it without making the hole larger.
I LOVE my Diva cup! So much easier than worrying about tampons or pads. It was really easy for me to get used to also. It can be a little messy but I rarely have that issue. Make the switch!

I've had mine for 6 months and I'm also super glad I got it. Sometimes I feel the diva cup is a little big to me, so I'm thinking about trying the Meluna.

I am surprised how this product is not well known since it's much better than tampons and pads. A woman uses around 15000 tampons/pads in her life. Imagine how much waste!

There's a great website with all kinds of information about menstrual cups:
