I recently read the book, Green for Life, by Victoria Boutenko and It changed my life! I am not a raw foodist, or a vegetarian or vegan (I like my meat) but I can say that after making the green smoothies everyday, I can see such a difference in my hunger and energy! I do not crave the bad high sugar and fat foods, and I have ventured out to eating things I had never heard of until this book. (And I must add that I love these new foods!) I also do not need or want coffee in the mornings- I wake up feeling very alive and rested.

I have passed this book along to all of my friends and family- I highly recommend reading it! The best part about this book is that it is not a "diet" book or a "this is the way you should eat" book- it simply gives you the research she found and becomes a tool and encouraging you to do your own further reading and find what works for you.

There are lots of recipes in the book to get you started. After making them for a while, I started to research the portions and what veggies/fruit combos are the best- I have made some of my own favs and now I have entire cookbook of green smoothies! I have recipes for breakfast smoothies, after a workout smoothie, and even dinner smoothies!

Have you read the book? Heard of it? Liked it? Hated it? Thoughts? Recipes?

I just tried a green smoothie and it was really tasty!! I couldn't taste the spinach at all.
YAY!!! So exciting! The fun part is now experimenting with other combos- start with changing up the fruit, then you can move to other greens.
Just got home with my smoothie groceries and am planning to have this for breakfast tomorrow! My hubby will be away this week on business, so I can indulge myself without any critical commentary. I hope I find a combination that I enjoy and really hoping I don't have an issue with the texture. Can't eat oatmeal for just that reason. I also hope my blender is high powered enough. Oh yah... and I did buy the book. Very easy read and I am about one third into it.
THat is awesome! Congrats!
Texture doesn't bother me much, but over the past months making the smoothies, there are some that I don't care for bc they don't blend well in my "smoothie maker" haha I don't have a blender, just one of the those generic smoothie makers- but it does the trick 90% of the time- one think I have a hard time with is Celery- the strings are all through it and it just takes the fun out of for me haha. My friend bought the Vitamix she talks about in the book- WOW what an amazing blender! You do not have anything left but a smooth texture! Even with the celery. The Vitamix is super expensive and out of my budget, but well worth the buy- I have been told Costco occasionally has them on sale :)
Mine too... budget I mean. I have asked for a ninja for xmas as I have heard remarkable things about it. (makes frozen boozy drinks just like a slushy machine!) I am guessing that yard sales and kijiji may not be a place to find a vitamix. Anyone who spends that much money on a blender would likely not want to part with it!
Yum! Had my first one this morning. Went light on the spinach, only one handful. Unbelievably delicious! Mine was banana, strawberry, little bit of pineapple, spinach and water. No texture issues at all. I don't have the Vitamix blender, but mine worked very well on the highest setting.

I just pretend I am Rene Russo in the Thomas Crown Affair....
I haven't read the book but I adore green smoothies!

I have been having these about twice a day for the past week! It's amazing how much energy I have had!

My favorite blend is a berry mixutre - strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and some pineapple and a banana. Throw in some orange juice and a whole bunch of kale.... It tastes like my own little glass of heaven. :)
Ooo the Berry Mix sounds Delicis! I'm gonna have to try that one- I love adding orange juice to mine as well :)

I love green smoothies too! I was interested in raw veganism a few years ago, but found it too hard to follow. I am a vegetarian though (have been for 11 years).

There are quite a few sites online with green smoothie recipes. My favorite is a banana, apple, blueberries and spinach. :)
