I truly believe in the healing power of (good)food, and I believe that a lot of common ailments can be taken care of with our diet..  I started juicing a few years after my oldest son was born and it changed my life.. I hadn't been able to lose the "baby weight" and I had developed thyroid issues, was battling depression and  I was constantly tired but unable to sleep.  After 3 months of juicing (and eating a healthy vegan diet and drinking lots of water I had gone from 160 to 130 lbs. and it stayed gone and my thyroid levels were normal!  My depression was gone and I slept..good!  I juice fruits and vegetables (mostly vegetables) if not every day then enough for a week (stored in airtight dark glass bottles) for me and my family and we love it!  Juicing has had such a huge impact on my life and I'm curious to see if anyone else is into it as well :)  If anyone is interested I can post my fav juice recipes :)

Hmm, I have often been fascinated with jucing and I love the concept. I even have a juicer and have juiced some but not a lot. I never really know what to put into it. Fresh apple juice is nice (especially from green apples!) but I always end up throwing one thing in that just makes it gross. That and all the juices seem really thick which kind of grosses me out... and if I add water it just gets kind of grosser... any advice?

Hi Arsyn :) I have def. made some pretty "gross" juices  lol especially when I first started juicing and getting my body used to it but my tastes have changed and the juice that was gross to me then (spinach, kale, garlic, ginger, carrots, celery, radish, beets, cucumber, apples and watermelon rind) is now my delicious, everyday juice!  But until I found it easy to drink such a concoction I stuck to juice recipes like this:

*carrot- I LOVE carrot juice alone :)

*carrot/orange (tastes like an Orange Julius!)

*apple/cucumber/celery

*apple/carrot

*watermelon(meat & rind)- watermelon is one of the most alkalizing juices you can drink, if you need to raise your pH this is a good juice!  Cucumber is also very alkalizing..

although juicing fruits can help you get used to fresh juice you should be careful about how much fruit juice you drink, lots of sugar :) as a rule I try to eat my fruit and drink my veggies..  though I do add an apple to almost everything I juice :)

What are your fav fruits and veggies? if you like to eat them you'll probably like to drink them, just experiment and find the amounts of each that you like. :)

As for the thickness..does your juicer have a strainer? as long as I strain my juice I don't have a problem with it being thick and it might also depend on what you're juicing.  I've never added water to my juice..  Keep experimenting with recipes (a little at a time, I know what it's like to juice 5 lbs of veggies and not be able to drink it lol)

Also what kind of juicer do you have? That will help determine if you shouldn't juice certain kinds of fruit/veg.  I have an electric champion juicer and a manual wheatgrass juicer that I use to juice everything not just wheatgrass :)

lol sorry if this post seems to be all over the place... I'm writing in between chasing my 2 year old around the house :)

Thank you for posting this! My bf and I were just discssing how beneficial it would be to invest in a juicer. It helps to know what to start with :)

if you need..this might help in choosing a type of juicer :)

ooh, this is interesting! i can't wait to move in to my very own place with my boyfriend to have my own kitchen appliances such as a juicer!
I love my juicer... we're getting ready to buy an RV and maybe live at a few state parks in the area while we look for land and build our home.. We're donating a ton of our stuff and storing quite a bit, I told my husband the only things I HAVE to bring are my juicer, hoops and sewing machine lol everything else can go :)
