If you live in Phila. area, you know about the lunchtime entertainment in Love Park (around 16 or 17th & JFK).  Ex.  Every Wednesday, starting June 1, they have "Line Dancing" instructions at noon.

I am new to Hooping and a friend of mine who knows that I'm in a Hooping Class works for the City of Phila.  She asked if a group of Hoopers from the area would be interested in having 'fun in Love Park' on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  The city would post something like "Bring Your Hula Hoop to the Park" and work out with other Hoopers.  Since the city of Phila. is emphasizing  exercise and fitness throughout the city (remember Phila. was the Fattest city once :-) she thought this would be something fun and different. Remember, this is 'volunteer' only and there is no limit on how many of us lead the hooping session.  If you are interested, let me know because she will give us designated dates. None of the Wednesdays are available.

Forgot to add a reminder:

Mondays and Fridays are all that is available from noon-5p.

The city will support us with a PA system and stage / canopy if we are part of our Summer in Love program which goes from Noon - 2p, Mon thru Fri, 6/1 - 9/30. If we do something after work, we pay for the electricity and have to pay a processing fee. However, abattery operated boom box it will eliminate the electrician cost. There is a strong lunch time crowd. Right now aerobics line dance is on Wednesdays, world health and fitness dance on Tuesdays, yoga on Thursdays.

Let me know your thoughts.
Fridays would be best for me because I don;t have class!!

I am available anytime Monday.
The City has Fridays and Mondays available. If you send me dates and times you are available, they will have everything set up for us.
I dont know about anyone else but I could only do Fridays @ whatever time
I will fill the form out for June 18th or 25th because I don't know which one is available. Let's start with one this month and see how it goes. I guess we need a flyer to tell people to bring hoops.
I just started hooping too. I work in philly and my office is @ 13th and spruce. I'd totally be down. It would be even better if the hoop lunch group was held in rittenhouse park sometimes bc it's closer to my office.
great idea kristen. how do we get permission to use rittenhouse partk?
Good question Jay. I'll look into it this week and get back to you.
Hi Jay,
Okay so I found the website, contacts, and application for special event permits.

website: http://www.phila.gov/mdo/Permits.html
contacts:
Jazelle M. Jones
Deputy Managing Director
215-686-3496 (Office)
-215-686-3479 (Fax)
jazelle.jones@phila.gov

Mechelle Sabb
Special Events Coordinator
215-686-3488 (Office)
215-686-3479 (Fax)
mechelle.sabb@phila.gov

application:
http://www.phila.gov/mdo/pdfs/special_Event_Application.pdf
The application is $25 and asks to indicate whether their will be vendors, food, merchandise selling, and amplified sound. ** Applications are required to be
submitted 90 days in advance. Applications submitted less than (90) days must include an additional $30 late fee.

I would be happy to help organize if we decide to go forward with this, and would be able to help either set up on break down, but not both since I only have an hour lunch break.
kristen - i am going to check with they guy in PR that is letting us do this for free for the first time b/c he wants to see how it goes @ love park. send me an email @ jayceeh@verizon and I'll reply w/my phone number.

I guess we need to post somewhere about a hoopjam so that a lot of people will bring their hoops.
if this is still happening can someone let me know??? it sounds fun and i could take the R5 down
