I was listening to the radio and I gasp when the host said that "books store in a few years will be out of business". I am thinking "thats not cool, what are we going to do with out trandainoal books?" How are kids going to learn the value of books? Learn to read, write? Books are so importent!

This enook and other books on techology is not cool. I see how it saves a tree cost less, but we can't do away with trandaional books. Then what about our eyes, dosn't it make it hard on the eyes beacuse the LCD/color brightness on the screen? We are in fornt of the screen at work. Who wants to come home and read on a screen? Wouldn't it lower the authors vaule of their book too and put them in a slump?

Tarndaional books are best they are a key foundtadion for learning, and enjoyment. I am in portest of the techology book giguets=(

What do you all think of the techology book giguets?

I have no interest in a Kindle or anyother electronic gadget to read on!  I love holding a book, and I love seeing my books all lined up on my bookshelves.  I don't like reading things on the computer.  Short things are okay, but anytime there is something longer on the computer that I want to read, I print it out.  Yes, I've printed out pages and pages of Wikipedia information just so I can sit and read it on paper.  I know there are advantages to the electronic readers, but I just don't think they're for me.

I really don't think traditional books are ever going to disappear.

I sure hope that traditional books stay in. I print things off and I know It's uses paper and what not but in a way it's easier on the eyes for me anyway.

Electronic gadget reader thingy lol how dorky am I I don't even know the correct names for the gadget readers. Just takes the fun out of reading. Holding a book, the samll of a book, the enjoyment of a book and not LCD pixl light from a screen is the best way and only way to read a good story.

Ditto for me. I purchase most of my books from Amazon or get them from freeshare or my local library because my local bookstore is expensive. I love holding the books and trurnig the pages too!

Thats very true! I agree that books are expensive. Cheep and low cost is best.

I have a Kindle and I do love it. The screen is actually this type of paper technology and it doesn't light up at all, it's really easy on the eyes. You can adjust the text size and everything to how you want it, and there is a built in dictionary to look up unfamiliar words which I love most about it. That being said, I do sometimes prefer to hold an actual book. I've been checking out books from the library recently but if there is something I absolutely can't find I will buy it on the Kindle. Oh and the best part about the kindle is you don't need access to wireless internet, it will just be connected anywhere and download your book in seconds. I think with the enook you actually have to be in an area with wifi, and its screen lights up and is more like a computer screen. So I guess I embrace the ebooks somewhat but I definitely agree actual bound books should NOT be obsolete anytime soon! I love bookstores and holding tangible books. lol I love the smell of brand new books when you flip through the pages! Technology has its advantages and disadvantages.

OMG! There was a news report just on. I am outraged that borders is going to be closing down stores=( they said borders is  lossing business due to the techo book thingies. I am just UGH! Then there was a company on saying that they have authors just for techo printing of their books. I should just give ya the link. Hold on....

There is a beautiful satisfaction from turning pages. I just can't let go of that.
I totaly agree with you Kathryn!

Although I can see the appeal of digital books- reducing clutter, easy to bring more than one book with you, availability of books... I cannot imagine myself buying one.  There's something about holding the book in your hands and turning the pages and the smell of either a new or old book that adds to the experience. Also, I love trading books with friends and family - It's like a little community. I hope that our children and future generations find as much joy in reading from "real-live" books as we do... It would be a sad day if books became something like VHS tapes- I feel like reading has a kinesthetic aspect and am really rooting for books to stick it out!!

But I guess I'm also glad to see that people who weren't interested in reading before now are finding renewed interest because of the gadget aspect!! Anything that gets people reading can't be all bad :)
