As I sit in a cold (in more ways than one) office, body aching all over, I find myself daydreaming, drifting back to North Carolina, yearning to spin....
....yearning to be back 'in the circle' not just the little plastic one, but the big magical human one that elevated me to blissful heights this past weekend.
My small apartment and rain all week here in NYC won't allow me to do much connecting with the little circle, but I do want to stay in contact with the big one. So if we met - or even if we didn't (I'm often quite shy) - and we didn't exchange contact info, please send me a friend invite. I miss you.
BTW, if you don't remember, I'm the Asian guy with the long hair, often without a shirt (my shirt comes off almost as easily as Rich's pants! ;)

Permalink Reply by Tara on May 19, 2011 at 3:15pm It was definitely hard to leave Hoop Convergence. It was my first and I was touched so deeply by everything and everyone. It was truly a life changing experience for me and I will honor and carry with me all of the things that I learned, hooping and otherwise, for the rest of my life. I am so proud to be a part of this community. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who made this past weekend magical.
I will most definitely be back next year :)

Permalink Reply by Jenny Anderson RaineDanceHooper on May 19, 2011 at 7:44pm as I reintegrate into 'regular life', I've noticed how we're unconsciously surrounded by synicism and sarcasm on so many levels, unwittingly. The negativity we've become accustomed to was absent in our HoopCon community of vibrantly and radically happy and healthy people. Maybe that's why the insta-bonding was so comfortable, the support so tangible and the vibe so sweet. Now the trick is to carry that sweetness into our tormented lives and share a bit of HoopCon magic with those that are receptive. I'll be back too. Gratitude to all.
Permalink Reply by Anastazia la Luminaire on May 21, 2011 at 7:19am Randy, I don't know if we introduced ourselves properly, but one of the many moments imprinted firmly in my memory is the final jam when I was dancing in with you as you were in your LED hoop. There are quite a few people that I wish I had spoken with more, and you are one of them. Next year, I'll make sure it happens. :)
It's been interesting trying to reintegrate in the outside world. I miss KNOWING that a cheerful "good morning" will be met with a huge smile or a hug. I miss not having to worry about putting my stuff down and wandering off for a while, knowing it will be there when I get back. I miss the random buffoonery awaiting around every corner. But most of all, I miss knowing that everyone around me is my friend, even if we've never spoken a single word. I'm already counting the days until next year.
Love to all!

Permalink Reply by Jenny Anderson RaineDanceHooper on May 21, 2011 at 9:46am Hey hoopconpals, just to let you know, my friend Amanda who had her brand new poply pro hoops go missing on the first day recovered them on the last day there. She overheard someone say 'hey there's an extra set of hoops in our cabin and everyone's gone, do you think they're that girl's..." just as we suspected, we love and trust all hoop con friends! Sweet and Salty Lara Superhooper replaced them for her and we took up a wee collection, so Amanda ended up with 3 new pp hoops, and shared one with me! So great to have a happy ending to this little subplot of a completely awesome experience!
I later regretted not saying in the opening circle, "If you have a polypro hoop, put something on it to make it recognizable as yours, even if it's just a single strip of tape." We had several mix ups last year and even I was hooping with Julia's new ones this year without realizing they weren't mine. They all lok alike and most of them are the same size too! I have to add that to my list of reminders for next year.
I'm glad she got her hoops back and also that everyone came together to help her out during Hoop Con. That's goodness all the way around.
I am really grateful for all of you. I still feel like my cup is full. (And I still feel like my muscles are sore.) I'm finally starting to get back into flow states. The only drawback to learning lots of new skills is that you have to THINK about them, to remember them and figure out how to do them and that interrupts my flow but I've integrated (almost) a few things I really enjoy and I'm working hard to remember other things. I hope the instructors who said they'd post videos of their combos do so soon. I really need the reminders. I will post my curriculum and some related videos I have on YouTube right after I post this. I just wanted to say I miss you all and I'm grateful to see glimpses of the world that could be, the world that will be. (I truly believe we are evolving toward that state as being the norm and I feel like we are leaders in this conscious evolution.) Love to you all.

Permalink Reply by Randy Kato on May 23, 2011 at 4:00pm Hi! I remember spinning with you. It's funny, the times you're "paying attention" like in a workshop - especially the ones where you partner up or something - it's obvious you'll rememember somebody.
But the moments I tend to remember most vividly (and most fondly) are the ones where you're jamming and flowing with each other. Not necessarily making eye contact and explicitly dancing together, but just being together in the circle, absorbing each other's energy.
I'm not sure how to really explain it, but the image of a beehive comes to mind.
Permalink Reply by beth lavinder on May 23, 2011 at 6:43pm Randy, I'm completely with you on this. I felt it too. A kinship because of proximity and shared bliss. Words are sometimes unnecessary.
