I am so happy I found this.  My son has autism and he loves hooping and watching mama do funny tricks!  I love teaching the kids at his school who also have special needs!  So nice to see this group and so proud to be part of it too! :)

My son is on the spectrum, and he is trying to learn to hoop and keep up with his mama.

I'm on the spectrum myself with Asperger's and hooping has helped me to be more self-aware and, in a way, has also shaped the way I interact with the people around me.
So I tried finding a way to share that experience and guess what? I'll soon be in training to be a nursery teacher who works with special needs children :)

I am Special Ed teacher and all the kids love playing with hula hoops. One of the girls I worked with was so proud of herself that she could hoop on her arm, she showed everyone. It's an awesome to see them hoop their little hearts out.

I've worked with numerous children who are affected by autism.  For the most part, they have such a blast hula hooping! It's great to see! :) I love the idea of this group.

Hi, I just joined! Nice to see this group :) my brother has asperger's syndrome and he picked up my hoop one day and what he created with the hoop WAS AMAZING! He was moving with my hoop, mostly hand passing, in ways I had never seen anyone else do!

I watch a 7 yr old who is autistic he can't keep the hoop up but loves trying and it's fun to see him trying any move I show him.

Is this just for hoopers in the fort lauderdale area or are there ways to be involved long distance? I love hooping and am currently studying to get my degree to work with autistic children this seems like a great cause.

I volunteer as a dance teacher working with children with various disabilities. I especially want to help children with autism. I'd like to develop a hoop class that benefits them. And I'm completely open to ideas. Thanks. Cara
