This month's challenge is to go international. Pick a song to hoop to that was recorded by an artist from another country. Don't just use a song from your country that is inspired by a different type of music. Really make the effort to try listening to something different.

This challenge was inspired by a concert I attended at a Hindu temple and the CDs that Kitchens of India includes in their meals for free.

Some different types of music you might try are Native American flute and drums, African drums, mariachi, Bhangra (Indian), Celtic, Estonian folk music.

Be creative. Come up with something we've never heard before.

****Reminder: Raffle entries are due by midnight Hoop City Time on June 30th.****

Oooh, I like this! I absolutely love classical Arabic music like Om Kalthoum, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Abdel Halim Hafez, all the classics. Although I think I'll be in trouble finding something less than 8min long, haha, those pieces are LONG!
OMG, I love the classic Egyptian artists too, such beautiful music!  Good luck!

I'm definitely up for this.  I have some Rivertribe in my collection (Australian group that uses didgeridoo and other instruments) and a couple of French songs.  I've also been thinking about getting some hang drum or hapi drum music and hooping to it.  Hmmm, lots to consider... :)

Miss Cephalopod, if the music has sections in it where the tempo or mood changes, maybe you can just hoop to a portion you like and use that for your video.

But the mood and rhythm changes are the best thing about Arab music! It's not just boring 1-2-4-3-1-2-3-4 all the way through :D

I've picked a song now that's about five minutes long, an instrumental baladi with a nice slow accordeon taqasim in the beginning that builds up to the drums and full orchestra. Nice! I'm sure I'll be able to do something with that. Maybe even throw in some bellydance moves.

Sounds cool.  Can't wait to see your video. :)

Oh, how fun AND appropriate!  I am also a belly dancer, have long loved attending Native American powwows to hear the music and see the dancing, and I am a Geographer... you couldn't have picked a better challenge topic for me to donate too!  I look forward to seeing everyone's entries!

Oh I love this challenge!

I normally hoop to indian, arabic or balkan beats so now I am going to go search for some alternative music!

Can't wait to see everyone's videos :)

Question: is it any artist that is from a different country or is the key to be something different than what we normally listen to?  Cause I listen to a lot of artists from the UK already. :p
Good question, Shannon.  My tastes are pretty eclectic too (ranging from several styles of American music to Austrailian didgeridoo, hang drum, sitar, Jewish, etc.), so am I supposed to try to hoop to - oh, I don't know, Gregorian chants or something?

Have you ever seen Ann Humphrey's video of her hooping to gregorian chants?  It's amazing! Totally made me tempted!

No, I haven't.  Where can I find it?
