“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” -Albert Einstein
This month's challenge is to give the newbies hope and encourage perseverance. I have a long list of hoop moves that I worked on for months and thought I would never get, but eventually did. So, the challenge is this. Video yourself doing The Move that you felt like you'd never get and if you have it, include video of yourself learning it. Also include how you overcame the block if you've figured it out, either on video or in written form.
At the end of challenge everyone should be saying, " I can't do that ... yet."
I will post a video soon, but The Move for me was shoulder hooping. It took over six months to be able to spin it a little and I still haven't gotten my reverse current going yet. How I got over it. I stopped hooping for 3 months. When I came back to it, I watched a how-to video and my bad habits were gone so I was able to start fresh. I was able to do the move after a couple of tries during my first time back. I don't think you need to quit hooping completely like I did (I had other things going on at the time,) but taking a break for a few weeks from a particularly frustrating move has been very helpful to me several times.
Prize: An 8-piece custom collapsible hoop from Troo Hoops
Raffle entries are due by December 1st, midnight, Hoop City time.
**** Only video entries will be eligible for the raffle. Please title your video "Hoop City Flow Challenge-November 2011" and start all raffle entries with "Challenge Completed." ****

I started hooping at the ripe old age of 59 in 2010. Sometime in October or November I started working on passing the hoop behind my back. I thought it would happen before my 60th birthday in December, but I still was dropping the hoop, hitting myself with it, etc. I kept trying though - I even had blisters on my blisters! My hoop instructor would keep encouraging me, "You're SO close!" Some time in January 2011 I finally mastered the move. I was thrilled beyond belief! Here's a very short clip from You Tube showing me complete it almost like it is second nature, which it basically is now!
Now if an old fart like me can learn hoop tricks, you can too. Patience, practice and persistence pay off.

u an inspiration hehehe, I didn't pick up hoop til this year just before turning 39 :) I have come far since May this year,, and would love to share a vid of me learning the vortex, because that's one the kewlest moves, yet simple, but can be done so many ways and can look so wow in performances and photos,, I haddd to get it hehehe! The trick that took me so long to learn and made me so frustrated has to be leg hooping! I just couldn't make it look good no matter what I tried. I finally decided to try playing with different sized hoops and I was amazed at how much simpler everything got. I figured out the timing and patterns of each different size and now I could keep the hoop on my legs for hours!!
