I got hired to cook for this new event in September. It looks really cool, and they'll have hoop teachers doing workshops on everything from basics to doubles. Figured I'd pass this along. Hope to see you hoopers out at Ox Arts!

The Ohio Burn Unit is pleased to announce Oxidation Arts, at Four Quarters.

Oxidation Arts is an intensive four day experience in the Art and Science of Fire Performance. Dozens of workshops will be taught by working professionals in the Fire Arts for Fire Artists of all levels of experience, from the basic through the advanced; including exhibitions of techniques and special burns that are rarely seen outside of the professional performers world.

Our emphasis is on the development of personal skills; as artist, as performer and as a technician of the Fire Arts; that become a mutual gift, freely given, within the circle of performance.

Our container is one of the most naturally beautiful and culturally progressive non-profit camps on the East coast, Four Quarters. A place where the principles of ecological sustainability and nature based spirituality are a daily practice.

The Ohio Burn Unit is one of the leading Fire Performance ensembles in America today, with world records including the longest Mass Body Burn. While their personal techniques includes Poi, Staff, Sword and Hoop; as a group they are expanded into pyrotechnics, odd toys, technical control systems, multi-person demonstrations and cinemagraphic stunts.

The Ohio Burn Unit holds the current Guinness World Record for continuous mass body burns, and will be giving a body burn demonstration Thursday night. Saturday night they will attempt to reclaim their previous Guinness world record for tallest fire breathing flame.

Above all is an emphasis on the Arts of Performance, the personal interaction between the performer and audience that makes for the mystery, magic and joy of performance art. They are eager to share their love of the Art of Fire.

Pre-registration is $140 and all food is included in your registration for Oxidation Arts, provided by The Starvin' Artist Cafe at Four Quarters. This event is entirely appropriate for children and families, complete details can be found at OxidationArts.org

I'm stuck in a loop with the hula hoop. When I was a little girl I was abused in every which way. Often I was grounded to my bedroom, with two bathroom visits and a dinner release. In my bedroom held my boom box. Loud music would draw my angry step father towards my room. But I had to dance, so from a young age I would take a few preventable beatings so I could dance in my bedroom. Pretending I'm dancing on stage with Brain Setzer, I had trained myself to ingore reality while I dance. Even…

I haven't posted for a very long time, but I have something worth sharing.  In the last couple of years, I have advanced enough to start teaching and I absolutley love my classes.  All my students are wonderful its the most favorite part of my week. Through a very unfortunate series of events, every hoop I own, including my hoops for students, were taken and no longer in my possession. I was so upset ,not for myself, but my students would have nothing to take class with. There…
