what music do us beautiful (but longer lived) hoopers love to hoop to? I tend to try anything, love bassnectar, and Saafi Bros (found out about them from Miss Rosie) but I really do best with a good R&B beat. Love Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Van Halen and some other classic Rock. So what do you ladies hoop to? Please Share!

WHo needs music? I try to hoop with friends and then we just feed off each other...but I am sure I would probably love to hoop to B52's or YAZ. I also have lots of hand drumming cd's never really thought about them but those would so work. Thanks for stimulating my mind, I am going to find my Ya CDs tonight.
Peace and Love, Diane
once in a while I hoop without music, but my hooping takes on a whole new energy when the music comes on. I might seem kind of lethargic and then I put on some music and a whole new energy surges through me..Am I just weird or does anyone else notice a distinct difference in Hooping to music vs. hooping without music and hooping to music they really like VS. music that is just so-so?
Oh absolutely I need music to hoop to. I just sort of don't work without it. I love all different sorts. I like to hoop to trance music, but also '80's music and this week I bought my first Black Eyed Peas album and love it to bits to hoop to. Thievery Corp., One Republic, R&B, Massive Attack, folk, well just about anything really. I must check out the Slumdog Millionaire sound track. I love those sorts of beats, Bombay Dum Orchestra are great to hoop to.
hmmm... good ideas, Sue...Haven't heard thievery corp yet but others have mentioned them.
Anything with a good beat...I have learned about Thievery Corporation, Naked Rhythm (my favorite), Shaman's Dream....However, 80's music is great! That's what I grew up with and used to dance to when I was young. I recently saw on TV a Duran Duran concert that was filmed in the 90's. I told my husband, "Man, I need to get my hoop." Some of their songs put me in the dancin' mood..."Wild Boys", especially, with those drums.

I have a variety of music on my iPOD, including Coldplay, Sting, Adiemus (I love to hoop to Adiemus) Shakira (great beat), the sound track to Slumdog Millionaire (great, great beat), and Journey. (After writing the above I may put some Duran Duran on there, too). I like to dance to some mellow songs, too such as Teardrop from Massive Attack.

It just depends on what mood I am in....I do not stick with only one type of music....dance comes in all speeds and styles. I try to be versatile.
I have a lot from Shaman's dream too. I need to find some stuff by Naked Rhythm, so many love to hoop to their music. You reminded me too that I need to check out the slumdog millionaire stuff, you're not the first person to tell me how great that was! thanks! Happy hooping!
One of my faves is the old Brothers Johnson "I'll be Good to You"... Also Latin-flavored stuff like Marc Antony "I Need to Know", Rob Thomas/Carlo Santana "Smooth", and "Bailamous" by Julio Iglesias' son...For real salacious, I love Grace Jones' old dance tune "Pull Up to the Bumper" ! (But not when my kids are around!)
yah....I forgot about the brothers Johnson!..I love the latin stuff too but some of it I have trouble hooping to...don't know why as I used to salsa...but still love to try.
I have a Hoop Music file; all types of genres...R & B, Reggae, Jam Band, Slow Acoustic, Classic Rock... just all my favorite songs.
oh these are all great ideas! 80's, house, jazzy, sometimes ambient, bollywood, to name a few.

one hoop jam night someone brought tribal belly dance music! wow! i have to say that i've taken a belly dance class, but the chest hooping still escaped me until i heard that music. finally the body movement went with the hoop and vic-a-versa. and i could chest hoop!

music that inspires the body to move in a certain way is so glorious, so juicy, so exhilarating!
Thanks for the ideas! I love the tribal dance too...and I love to go to drum circles and practice.
I'm all over the place when it comes to hooping music. ZZ Top, my belly dance music. But I also really love that rock and rolly country music for hooping, too.
