Okay, i want to knit some for the winter so i can stay warm and hoop with them on. I'm think any acrylic yarn will be bad cause my hoop may slide on it. What about wool? I've never knitted with cotton or hemp blend yarns. What's the least slick?
And...any pattern suggestions? I'm on Ravelry too (lilgamoma).

I would definitely use wool! If you are looking for inexpensive then I'd go with patons merino or cascade 220. They have just enough texture to them that your hoop wouldn't slide off. I'd stay away from smooth/single ply yarns (like malabrigo) and from yarns that have some slickness about them like tencel, silk, bamboo & many cottons
Hmm. What about a sock yarn?
sock yarn would be a great choice! thin enough to not get in the way of the hoop but still nice and warm, and there are plenty of inexpensive choices among them as well
Thanks. I have found a couple of patterns, now just to find some yarn...that I like! Sock yarn would be perfect wouldn't it? LOL
yea Now I am thinking of hunting down some smooshy in the same colorway as the dream in color bulky I am using to knit big fat chunky cabled leg warmers, that way i can make my armwarmers match LOL
I didn't even think about leg warmers! Oh no! LOL...I cannot spend more time knitting than hooping! hee-hee
you could always work on knitting whilst hooping! :D
these are wicked cute: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/corseted-mitts
I would use wool too, because I love wool. I think I would do a worsted and not a sock weight myself, more so because sock weight makes me want to stick those tiny needles in my eyes.
These are pretty cool too:

I saw those...but I wasn't sure how the ribbon part may affect hooping. But I really do like them. :) I know how you feel about the tiny DPNs too, lol. But I ended up dying some wool yarn & found a simple fingerless glove pattern I'm just going to extend down.
Cute patterns :D gonna add both to my "to do" list.

I'd defiantly recommend wool or another nice natural fiber (I'm rather fond of alpaca myself), i love making small accessories like this, they are super fast to knit up, and don't take up too much yarn so you can splash out on a small amount of the good stuff.

Heres a couple of my fav patterns

http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/PATTknucks.html these are more hobo gloves, i love this pattern though, I've made a few pairs for friends. Not tried these for hooping yet.
Has anyone found anymore patterns?  I'd love to try these as soon as I get a bit more adept at knitting - and I learn other basics like purling.  LOL!
